Jack Olsen in Car & Driver ?

So I'm waiting for my wife at the chiropractor, flipping through the August Car & Driver. Suddenly she's done, so I expedite my page flipping, intent on shoveling in as much car **** as possible. Close to the last page (I think) I see a familiar site---it's a picture of Jack Olsen's garage with a write-up. My wife's trying to get me to leave, and I'm like "hey I know this guy!" (well, okay, I don't know him) But I know of him.

That's pretty cool Jack! Always neat when you see someone's car or a similar writeup in a magazine.

I'll agree that recently my garage is as overexposed as those Jersey Shore kids. But I'm pretty sure it is not in Car & Driver. Are you sure you weren't looking at Popular Mechanics?

You too can have your garage in magazines IF...

you diligently post near professional pics of every stage of development and make the story interesting. And have a theme such as "I did this on the cheap with a lot of repurposed items." Remember, Jack is a professional writer by trade.

He earned every printed word about his abode.

Me, I work out in a patch of dirt surrounded by metal cabinets of a much lesser gauge. Maybe some day I'll get a roof on the affair. Banana and palm leaves would be a big step.

See - that's your problem. You don't work on dirt - you work on a compacted material that was sourced locally - didn't cost you a dime - and doesn't show dirt. Your cabinets were carefully selected to offer the maximum personalized storage potential based on a complicated mathematical equation based on your individual needs (mention that you upsized a hair just to be on the safe side).

It's like Jack is the unofficial ambassador of Garage Guys everywhere. I happened to be in the grocery store last night and saw the latest garage makeover magazine with Jack's place in it. Good job Jack!

What I get out of these magazine threads is that they are all monkey see, monkey do. Jack has said he doesn't know how some of the articles appeared. I think the mags ought to get out and dig up some fresh material. I'm pretty sick of the typical Autoweek spread showing a shinny floor warehouse with oil signage everywhere and a leather couch/flatscreen ensemble.

Where's the grit?
