I have a set of these and I'm looking for the "rubber pads", "saddle pads" or whatever they are called that go over the top to protect the frame. Where can I find them? And what is the proper name for them, might help in finding them. Mine are Lincoln but they are the same ones.

Thanks guys, that's what I'm looking for but I'm actually looking for the Lincoln or Hein-Werner brand pads, for some reason I can't seem to find those particular ones.

I dont know what the correct name for them is. However if were working on something that needs a littler more "white glove treatment" we just take a piece of tire and put it ontop.

A old tire cut into pieces is great, it can be used for so many things. From protecting the corner of a object when using chain binders to stufflike your talking about.

I would never use a Jack Stand on any Pinch Rail of any car. Use the Proper Jacking Points.

That is the proper jacking point on some vehicles if my understanding of terminology is correct. An example would be my 1994 Pontiac Grand Am.

Might be a good LIFT point, but probably not jacking point. These can mean very different things, ask some Lotus owners lol If you try to lift those on the jacking points you will probably cause a LOT of damage when the car falls of the lift backwards. If you jack on a lifting point, it will usually cause some minor damage.

Here's another US company that offers jack stand pads, a little pricier but you can get your specific size, rather than one size fits all. I've got a floor jack saddle pad and side lift jack pad from them. Both are quality products.

This stuff looks pretty good. I had cut a few pieces of rubber that were working, but this might make the job a little easier...

Hi Gang,
I need something similar. I have the situation below, I need some way for my jack stand to engage the jacking point on my car. I can't figure out how to make something safe and need some ideas. I don't want to crush the body work or have it slip off and crush the floor boards.

Kind regards,
Rick

OK, I see what you've done there. I don't know if that is the route I'd go with that jack tube adapter you made. I know why you did it but I personally don't like it. There are ways around that by using the rear diff (allowable on MB at least some models) and the front cross member.

As for your question, the best solution is to use AC Hydraulic or Esco flat top jack stands with a hockey puck on top.

I took scrape plywood pieces and made a U that goes on each side of the pinch weld. Works great on my Jetta and WRX.

Those jack pads can be dangersous. I used to use them and a few times I had the jackstand start to slide out from under the axle. They all went in the trash after I almost got crushed. I can deal with a scuffed up frame, axle, etc, but can't deal with a crushed head.

Oh, the tube socket adapter is ONLY for jacking. As soon as I get it up the plan is to lower it onto the jacking pads on jack stands. I did a FEA on the tube and calculated the stresses in the bolts. They are grade 8 and there is sufficient safety factor (but not enough to crawl under). My problem is that if I jack it up via the jacking pads I have no access to the pad to put a jack stand under. I'll look at different stands....

Much thanks

All true. It is a difficult problem for sure. But, I have come up with a solution without using the jacking tube ports. I wouldn't want to keep poping that plastic cap in and out for one thing.

The rear is no problem at all. Pick the car up on the differential and put the flat top jack stands under the jack pads adding a hockey puck so the urethane doesn't get messed up. The jack pad will move up slightly as it compresses.

The front is more of a problem. New CLK's for example have a lift point engineered in the front for the floor jack to easily get on. It is even accessible through the splash guard cover. Your car is obviously different and you may not have easy access to the cross member generally behind the motor. You couldn't get a jack under that far anyway. What I propose is to drive the car up on ramps and pick it off with the floor jack on that center cross member. Then you can put the jack stands safely at the proper point.

Other than that is there any other reason not to do it this way? I am not really concerned with the caps. I am not going to be getting under the car that often. Hockey pucks are a brilliant Idea, I'll get a few and try it out. Thanks!
RickP

PS, I dont' think jacking under the front anywhere is possible with the R129 as I have been checking those forums too.

I use brake pedal replacement pads. Take them, submerge them in boiling water for about 20 seconds and mold them to the top of the jack stand. You should be able to pick them up at an Advance, O'Rielly's or Awfulzone.
