Jack Stand Storage

Due to my inability to turn down a good deal on a vehicle I like, I now have several. Add to this, the fact that I live in the snow belt, I have accumulated a large collection of jack stands. Needed both for maintenance and off-tire storage. I have yet to come up with a clever way to store these damn things in a space efficient manner when they are aren't in use. their shape doesn't lend well to stacking or other means of keeping them from becoming toe breakers! Any out there solve this problem in their shops? Let's see some ideas! L8r

From a previous thread -

I have accumulated 10 jack stands over the years. They take up a lot of space and (to me at least) are hard to store. I don't have any shelves that the bigger ones will fit on.

Then I bought a 4 post lift, and the casters to go with it. They really take up a lot of floor space, and the obvious solution is to hang them up someway. And my first plan was to go vertical with a rack for the jack stands, and hang the casters on the side.

But I decided to not go so tall, so the rack would be closer to counter/work bench height.

They all fit in a 30" X 36" space, with room left over.

The lift casters mount on the side, resting on hooks at the bottom. I didn't hang them from the top because they won't hang straight. The weight of the wheels causes the bottom of the castor frame to swing out away from the cart frame, creating a shin buster. Or, if turned around, the wheels stick out in the way.

The caster wheels fit in between the jack stands.

Same on the other side. The weight of the wheels tips the castor frame against the cart frame. They are just sitting on the hooks on the bottom, leaning against the cart frame.

To keep them from getting knocked off (like when moving the cart), I made a big wing nut to hold them in place.

It is spring loaded, just pull and turn left or right to release.

I have two old Craftsman boxes that I keep seldom used tools in. They fit in 1" angle frames on the top.

And some plywood for a shelf.

When the cart is mounted on 4" casters (leaning against the floor jack wheel), these two floor jacks will fit under it.

Next will be paint and mount it on the casters. I have 1/2" nuts welded in the bottom end of the legs. Gotta paint those pitiful looking tool boxes too.

I would try to make it so the "post" doesn't fall out and then hang them up by either top or bottom.

I built an open top rectangular wood box from 3/4" plywood and mounted it to the wall. It holds 4 jack stands and I hang the jack and jack handle from the bottom of the box. You can make the box any size you need.

Just remember to mount the box very securely to the wall. I didn't the first time and it came crashing down after a few months of use. The jack and jack stands weigh a considerable amount.

I have 6 of them stacked under my work bench in two stacks. Take the center shaft out, then stack the bodies. The center shafts will slide under the bottom stand on the stack.

I have the black roller cart from Harbor Freight. I keep 6 jack stands underneath on the bottom tray along with a few miscellaneous pieces of wood.

thanks guys, there are some good ideas posted here. The toughest part for me was trying to figure out where I had space to put them. I found that spot last night by cleaning a bunch o' junk out of a space between a shelf unit and a wall. Looks like that spot will big big enough to do a variation of nafterclifen's solution. Please is big enough for me to park my shop vac at the bottom too. Sweet! L8r
