Over the years there have been a few threads on Jack Stand storage. Instead of bringing back a thread from the past, I figured i would start a new one and add the the Garage Journal collective knowledge. I recently picked up a new set of stands from US Jack and I am very tight on space in my garage. So, I built the rack pictured below. I had to buy the hooks but the rest of the materials I had sitting around from previous projects.

I'm very pleased to have the stands off the ground and they make excellent wall art!

I would love to see other good storage ideas!

Awesome idea, going to have to steal this also. I'm tired of banging my ankles into the ones under my bench.

Since my water heater is on a stand about 18" off the ground, the jack stands get piled up under there. I like your idea, and am sub'd. Anyone have a simple wall storage solution for tri-leg stands like ac hydraulics.

Are those older version that does not have the bars attached to leg to leg?

Here is the basic idea I came out with. You get the idea. hahaha

Could you link the previous thread too? I'd like to read it.

Just do a search for 'jack stand storage'. There were about three threads on this subject with about 20 posts each.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. If you make your own version, be sure to post pics.

Maybe a ratchet strap loosely through all the stands hooked to something in case something failed. Shock load absorber.

That's what your head is for, why do you think they're over the door.

Man that's overkill. And would be fun to do whenever you wanted to take one down to use it!

Because materials he had sitting around from previous projects.

What I think he meant was why a 2x4 at all? What is the purpose?

Actually it would have been better, if 2x4 was mounted on the edge, so it rest on the hook and 2x4.

It's gotta be 12" or more. You really think it would slide out? What, overtime with the door closing and such?

If the wall of his garage door access vibrates as much as mine does, yes I would think so. I have a shelf just outside my door, with the Modem, Router and Switch for my network here at home, and had to strap them down to keep them from shaking off the shelf over time.

I also had to duct tape the Wall warts onto the UPS because it's mounted on the wall and they keep falling out...

Every time that door closes, the wall adjacent sees a mini earthquake.

I'm happy you guys like this so much!

Why the 2x4?

As others stated the 2x4 tilts the stands up just enough so that they shaft thingys slide in and not out. With just the hooks, the shafts would actually be titled down a little because hook have to stick out a little ways in order to get the stands onto them. On a side note, that door only covers up my electrical panel in a room that is six inches deep. So, there won't be much traffic under the stands. I have no idea why a previous owner built a door there.

Actually it would have been better, if 2x4 was mounted on the edge, so it rest on the hook and 2x4.
This is probably the one thing I would have done differently. I would like a little more slope but at the same time I'm not at all worried about them falling out.

I'm from Calif. so the thought of earthquakes crossed my mind. I think if I tilted the 2x4 as SKang recommended, that would be enough to make them safe. Earthquakes are not really a big concern here in Chicago.

For those thinking of building something similar, you may need to come up with something different for hooks as the US Jack jack stands have an uncommon style of bottom cross bar.

Not in California with all of our earthquakes.

And how often are these used? If everyday then a backup device might be inconvenient, but if these get used a few times per year then I would think that a backup device would be a good idea.
