I had these jack stands and floor jack in storage for a bunch of years and just got them back.

On a smooth level floor they worked fine for oil changes under my lightweight car (under 3500 pounds).

I did love the design and light weight. And the post and pin seemed secure. But the small flat base sometimes seemed a bit delicate to use, even on flat and level floor.

After being a garage journal member for a couple years and reading about jack accidents... well, are these worth keeping?

Yes they are worth keeping. It may not be wise to hold up a rig while pulling a trans or other heavy work but just to hold it up probably OK. I also use jack stands for holding things other than vehicles so to me even the cheap ones are useful. I just do not trust my life to them.

Personally, I avoid Chinese tools like the plague. Seeing that you should not get under a floor jack that lifts a vehicle, I guess the jack is usable. But there is no way I would trust those jack stands for anything. Buy quality stands that are made in the USA. The 4-leg ones with a wide base are stable when used correctly.

Fasten rubber blocks to the top saddles, them turn them upside down and fasten the base to the underside of a workbench = Adjustable Height Workbench

You could weld larger steel plates to the base. That style stand is very popular for European cars because you can make a steel block to sit in the saddle that seats in Jack pad adapters.

Edit: see adapters https://www.reverselogic.us/jack-stands.html

I bet you can find a bmw enthusiast to trade other stands for them. I would if I was closer... (Although I also have the esco's shown)

Hold on to them, if you dont trust the stands, either scrap em, or weld on a larger plate.

We use jack stands all the time, but they are good ones ! I just spent Friday evening helping my son pull the transmission out of this Dodge. And it isn't going to fall unless you were to do something stupid.

OT. Nice Dodge! It that metal flake brown paint?
I only ask because I have an '81 D-150 that is that color.
Well, what's left of the paint anyways.

Why did that trans come out? I just had mine out. Apparently, the clutch is supposed to do something when you depress the peddle, and it eventually requires attention if it doesn't.

More on topic. I keep a set of HF jack stands around. Got to the point where i don't trust the pawl on the adjustment, but the bases work just fine for lower cars.

I also find that jack stands are good for light duty stuff like lawn tractors and the rear axles of motorcycles if you don't trust a car over your noggin.

Interesting design, never seen that before. Don't look as stable as the traditional 4 leg pyramid shaped ones. I just upgraded to a set of 6 ton stands with locking pins.

It is a automatic, when it would warm up it would loss the forward gears. On a air check the low clutch apply was not working. Looks like the o rings on the piston are bad. I am letting my son work through it. He was checking it out tonight. The truck had been sitting for several years.

I've owned those same jack stands for about 10 years. The picture on the box appealed to me when I made the purchase. But when I used them 1 or 2 times I felt they weren't stable enough. If I was wrenching on a 15/16" headed bolt and nut, I could slightly rock the car unintentionally.

I never use them and won't again. Don't know why I haven't placed them in the trash.

I only use 4-legged stands, either 3-ton or 6-ton, depending on the vehicle I work on.

I remember when I saw those things the first time. I thought they were iffy then. I can't say my opinion has changed.

If you were putting a small vehicle up on stands for storage, yeah maybe.

I would get better jack stands with a MUCH larger footprint. Those don't look too stable. I might be inclined to keep them, but I know I wouldn't trust life and limb to them

Those have way too small of a footprint. I wouldn't even give them away because an unsuspecting mechanical noob might crush themselves to death.

I vote keep them. You can always use them for other projects besides holding up a car. I used four of my stands the other day to sit a washing machine on so I could pull the transmission out for example.

I have 2 pairs of similar 3 tons and four 6 ton Chinese ratcheting stands. I have had them for years. I have had cars and trucks on them for extended periods. I always make sure that everything is level and wobble free. I have no reason not to trust them.

They look a bit small at the base for me, i feel more comfortable with the stands that have 3-4 legs on them.

And a locking pin.

I say keep them - IF you have a use.

I started with a cheapy jack and stands.....which I still have despite now using mostly high end, American made heavy duty stuff.

......because I dont need a $500 overbuilt jack or heavy duty stands to lift/hold my mower/ATV or one end of my motorcycle.....and if I didnt have the little ones Id be dragging this big heavy *** jack and stands around the garage.

Now if were not talking mower/atv or something similar - I wouldnt use the JACK STANDS at all. I wouldnt get under a car with them.

The jack.....maybe I guess a small car.

Point is.....not everything requires high dollar, built like a tank stuff.

Well, guys thanks for all the comments!... I just took them to goodwill.
I'll keep the pump jack, it may be cheesy, but there is no real danger with in, as I'll get better jack stands.

That jack looks similar to a 2t Arcan jack i got from costco a few years ago, maybe even a re-brand.

Best jack i've ever used.

The jack is OK. I like how small and light it is.

I got tired of jacking and stands for doing oil changes. I bought a set (2) of Rhino ramps at PA when they went on sale for $60...(12,000lb/set of four=3000lb ea.) perfect for front end "get me under there safely" jobs. Drive on...drive off.;)
