The even cheaper solution is I put a block of wood just inboard of the pinch weld at the jacking location and lift from there. Have been doing this for years.The cheap solution if take a piece of 4x6 and cut a wide deep groove in it.

On our "modern" cars, I don't mess with the pinch welds. I use Esco (flat topped) 3-ton stands under structural members. To lift the cars, I have a rubber puck that fits on my trolley jack, and lift on the front or rear crossmembers.
