Please post your brand and weight capacity and how many you own. Just looking to get a consensus.

Thinking of picking up the 6 ton HF stands. They seem like every other China/Taiwan made jack stand available most anywhere. Probably all made by the same company anyway.

No name - 2 (I've had these 40 years, they are not cast, instead welded from stamped parts. I don't go under anything supported by them. They are good as a 5th and 6th helper)
HF 3 ton - 2
HF 6 ton- 2
CFTM 6 ton - 2

All the cast ones look the same to me.

1 pair HF 3 ton
1 pair HF 6 ton
1 pair Snap-on 6 ton (not mine, dads)

The HF's are good but whimpy compared to the Snap-ons, smaller footprint too.

I'd like to get 2 pairs of Hein-Werner 6 ton when I have my own garage. Visually, they appear the same as SO, I wouldn't be surprised if HW made them for SO.

2 sets of craftsman pro- chicom, 2 sets of OTC stinger 12 ton- chicom. Do I wish I owned USA made jackstands, yes. But for the the cost I can't justify it, to me this is something, it has to support the rated weight or there would be big trouble for the company selling them. I would think hf would pay dearly if one of their jackstands gave out and it could be pinned on shotty stands.

2 pair Hein Werner 6 ton
1 pair HF 6 ton.

I stopped using the HF stands after I lowered one corner of a 3/4 ton truck onto them and I watched the pad spread a good 1/4" and the actual metal frame of the stand spread all over the place.

2 pair of the HF 6 ton
1 pair of no name 3 ton

I use the HF 6 ton stands regularly with a 3/4 ton truck...haven't seen any flexing or spreading and yes I've been looking at them closely for any issues.

It would probably also help to know what people are working on with their jack stands? If all you ever work on are cars, the 3 ton stands are fine but if you do any work on full size trucks, especially 4x4's you will probably need 6 ton stands for their additional height if nothing else.

This is what I am afraid of. I use the HF's for extra **** like the subframe that is currently out of my dad's Nova. Snap-ons are the go to's (heaviest I have is my k5 Blazer) and hence why I will be getting 2 sets of Hein Werners. I'd gladly pay $100 for a pair of stands that wont flex while I'm under a car.

Good point. I have a 99 F250 light duty, so I will be picking up a set of 6 ton stands for that, but I also want to smaller stands for working on my wife's 06 Mazda 3.

These are awesome. They cost a little more, but they are worth every penny.

HF sixers. I've even got an artsy picture.

I've also got about eight smaller ones. They come in handy for just enough so that I never throw them away. They DO NOT store easily.

4 ea. 6 ton USA made Walker (two from the flea market, two from a neighbor's estate sale)

4 ea. 6 ton USA made (early '70's) unknown brand, bought them new.

4 ea. 3 ton Snap-On, China made, very heavy good quality with little flat feet welded to the corners.

2 ea 4 ton NAPA (same size as 3 ton) China made, very heavy and good quality. (came with NAPA floor jack package deal)

Not much use now with the two post lift. Have a Ford Jubilee sitting on four of the 6 ton while the wheels are being replaced.

I'm surprised so many here have the 6 tom jacks? Unless you're working on big trucks what's the justification for the 6 ton over the 3 ton jacks?

I'm looking to buy some new jacks too and am probably going to get the Hein Werner's but have been debating between the 3 and 6 ton version?

Height..................

6 ton stands pull up to 24 inches.

3 ton stands pull up to about 16 or so inches, possibly 18" (I haven't bothered to measure the 3 ton ones).

If you have an ordinary modern car, then 6 ton is out of the question, you don't need and probably cannot use something that tall, even when lowered fully. The bases are so big also they get in the way. Now if you need height, such as the Ford Jubilee tractor I have sitting on 6 ton stands, the little 3 ton ones are too short.

Its all about height.

I have 4 Hein Werner 6 Ton jack stands for working under the car; I could have gotten less like 3-ton but I sleep better at night knowing I have that added protection.

I just saw a coupon for the 6 ton Harbor Freight stands, $29.99 for the pair. That is an absolute smoking deal!

Here's what I have:
-2x pair Tractor Supply 6 ton
-3x pair 2/3 ton misc

I have found the 6 tons are the perfect height for working on Jeeps, and work very well with the Land Rover and Dodge 2500.

I have the best: US Jack.
4 of them rated at 3 tons each. (as opposed to 3 tons for a set.)
I was not able to find another stand with a wider base. They hold my FJ Cruiser and my Mustang without problems.

That was exactly my point. For most modern cars, the 6 ton'ers are somewhere between overkill and useless. Hence why I'm surprised so many in this poll only or mostly have 6 ton'ers and not the standard 3 ton versions.

In my case, I have a stock height full size 4x4. My frame sits 12" off the ground. A typical 3ton jack stand will give me to another 5-6" tops but that's still 17-18" off the ground which is more then enough to do just about anything other then maybe dropping the ******. Granted my truck is a Chevy which sits low for a full size 4x4. If I had a Ford or Dodge, especially a 3/4 or 1 ton version or a lift kit then things would be different.

Then you also have to factor in what your floor jack is capably of? Mine's jack's max height is 21.5" so most of the additional height a 6 ton stand would give me would be wasted unless I start doing some creative engineering. ;)

I have a set of HF - 6 ton and 3-ton steel stands and two sets of the HF 3-ton Aluminum stands. The Aluminum stands are really light.

AC jackstands, same company that makes the floor jack also in the photo. Not sure they are sold in the US anymore, even Ultimate Garage quit carrying them in lieu of an asian knockoff. 6K lb capacity.

I have about a dozen or so stands between the two garages, a few craftsman, and the rest are older, well built ones. Forget what brands. All but one have mates, this one old 8 ton one, I put it under my pintle for safety when lifting my truck, it's too tall to fit under anything else I have.

I've seen that jack for sale on pelicanparts.com. I believe they have the jack stands.
