I have had the Torin 6 ton versions for 6 years to lift my Avalanche. The Avalanche is about 5300 lbs curb weight but I found my old 3 ton stands weren't tall enough and went to the 6 ton. I would imagine your 2500 sits a little higher than my avalanche.

EDIT: I should add that I have 4 so I can rotate my tires while the oil is draining.

I did some quick searching and found these two 3 ton jack stands are frequently mentioned. Will I be making a mistake by purchasing one of the two for DIY work in my own garage? Largest vehicle lifted would be a Silverado 2500HD. Is the 3 ton rating good to go for my needs?

Harbor Freight - https://www.harborfreight.com/3-Ton-Steel-Jack-Stands-61196.html

Torin - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00026Z3E0/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Go with the Torins - they have pins - very important!

Get the 6 tons, 3 tons are too small.

Good luck!

Those Torin double-locking stands are the same cheesy stands sold under many different brands, but with a pin that barely engages the teeth on the post.

I have a set and the pin barely goes under the tooth at all. It's not as confidence inspiring as you'd suspect from the design.

The Northern stand linked above is probably the same Torin stand with a different sticker. Northern is where I bought my double-locking Torin stands.

I rarely use my 6-ton stands. 3 ton stands are fine for cars and small pickups, but I would do 6-ton on a 2500 truck.

I own a set of the Harbor Freight stands and I am not a big fan of them. They did however hold my 2002 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab securely while I did a brake job. I only use them now with very light loads and additional support from other stands or solid items such as 4 x 4 wood blocks.

Get the 6 ton stands. At their lowest height, the 6 ton stands are just a little shorter than most 3 ton stands at full height (which is easy to lift any vehicle too). At full height, the 6 ton stands provide a lot of room to work under a vehicle (6-8 inches more WHICH IS SO NICE). For a truck/large SUV (more suspension travel), the 6 ton stands are almost a must to actually get the wheels off the ground more than half an inch.

I definitely don't lift anything that I need 12 tons of support for (two 6 ton jack stands pairs aka 4 stands total), but I do need the height usually.

I have the strongway double lock ones, and the way they are designed is that if the pawl fails, the post portion falls more onto the locking pin, fully engages the pin, and catches itself. It is only only about half engaged when there is no force on it (e.g., the main pawl has not failed and the stand is operating as normal).

Do not get 3 ton stands. I had one snap under my 2500hd. I replaced mine with the Craftsman 4 ton, but if it's the truck I'm working on, I double up.

I bought Sunex 10 ton stands [20 ton pair] from Summit Racing. Each stand rated for 10 tons. Very well made.... Yes they are overkill but makes me feel safe. About $155 per pair. Torin are good with pins.

I have the same ones with the monster label, they work just fine
