They also look very dangerous:shocking:.

That was my first thought, but I think they are bigger than they look. I can actually see places I would use them. Not 90 bucks worth though:lol_hitti

Honestly I do not see how or why these are better than the ones at HF. Or any other seller who charges a lot less.

The second one looks bad because of the base right? I like the second one because even though its the ridge kind of jackstand it still has the safety pin.

I would not be comfortable due to the base. I like the idea of the weight of a car being distributed to 4 legs and not being held in such a vertical fashion.

Agreed. The wider the base, the better.

What is with the new hype on aluminum jack stands? The specific type of aluminum and steel being compared notwithstanding, these metals are being applied as a compressive load. The compressive load and the buckling that occurs (before ultimate breakage) is directly proportional to the modulus of elasticity. Steel has an elasticity roughly three times larger than that of aluminum. Which would you rather take a chance with? I know my answer.

I have used that second style for many years myself but I know my father has the other style (1) and has for years.. I think they have to go thru some pretty rigorous tests before they can be sold. Used properly I think they are both good.

Wow, very interested, have a few questions. I really want some good quality flat top jack stands, but am not willing to pay the high price for the escos when I don't like the quality and I don't want aluminum ones.

1. Cost? And where can they be purchased from?
2. Maximum and minimum height?
3. Weight capacity?

I don't speak german :pimpflash

Just curious, are those thread type strong as original jack stand type?

should be :)
iirc if you sell something like this over here the product safety margin must be 4-times the load capacity iirc so if a jack stand is offered to hold up 3 tons it must be tested up to 12 tons.

Buy direct. Just call them, they have very good customer service. Yes they are expensive but my life is worth it. They are completely bomb proof.

Not that I'm pro AL jack stands but critical buckling load is also directly proportional to moment of inertia. So, the AL stands utilize different designs than their steel counterparts.

The solid flat base on those jacks would also worry me since if you weren't on a perfectly flat surface they might be unstable. Not to mention the bases aren't that wide either.

My dad has the HF versions of the stands in the first link and they seem to work ok. For a little extra though I'd get the HW ones.

The first set looks exactly the same in design to the harbor freight ones for $12.99 on sale this month with the exception of the pin on the chain..

IF their is no COO difference i would look at HF for alot less..I try not to use China made safety items unless they have been around for awhile and tested and plenty of reviews online..When my US made jackstands got stolen in storage during a move, I got the HF ones and pretty happy with them..

I wonder if the Screw type someone posted in the thread, do they have a way to keep em from losseing beofre getting the full weight on them or is it a non-issue? I like the idea of the finer adjustment over traditional jack-stands.

COO?

I don't trust my life to any made in china ****, I don't care how good it looks. :fingersx: Or how well it's been "tested." :headshake

There was a time when I didnt care to much about tools..I didnt spend days researching what the best jack, stand, or tool..I just wanted safe jackstands, and nothing made of stamped steel..
Nowdays shopping and research for buying a tool, is as much fun as using one if its over 95 degrees outside...

Being cheap is not to be ever used togther when it comes to safety..

I realize this thread is slightly dated, but I found these on Amazon, for your consideration:

Not a bad price, either. I've ordered two pair for myself, since I got a real good scare from the ratcheting type I currently have, while working on the gas tank on the Ford Exploder. Looks like I'll be donating the old ones to the scrapper, thank you very much.

Well, that's confusing. That's the page it links to from my account, but I paid no shipping, because it was eligible for free super saver shipping, and I got them from Amazon, not Northern Tool. And they weren't $29.95, either. I bought 2 pair, and also picked up the Blitz wheel chocks from the "Frequently Bought Together" part on the page (which aren't orange, BTW, they're black. But at least they're USA made).

Looks like they've changed things up a bit. Here is the link I bought from; better price, but I see now the shipping time is ridiculously long. It definitely didn't have that there before. Sorry for all the misdirection.

The jackstands themselves arrived today, and of course, COO is China, for all interested. The best part of them is probably the pin feature, because the quality of the stands themselves doesn't exceed par. 11 ga flanged steel welded base, ductile iron ratchet bar. Pitting on the locking pawl, but not dangerous. When Harbor Freight gets around to putting pins in theirs, you'll have a match for these. Good price, though, when you don't have that ridiculous shipping charge.
