Ahh, but are they snap on or another brand? scroll down on that page to thier other models. They are lower capacity and a higher price. Get some 2x2x 1/8 steel plate, and have a friend tack them on for you. Use a quick tack or two on each "leg" and you wont alter its structural integrity. All my jackstands are made in taiwan (frown) but They are all totally overkill for what Im using, so I figure they are fine.

Hey, take a close look at the 2 jack stands supporting this midrise lift. Does anyone know/recognize the manufacturer of those stands?????

I would consider the AC Hydraulics line of jack stands. Ultimate Garage has them:

http://www.ultimategarage.com/acstands.html

They're what I was planning on getting once my floor was done, too.

The rubber flattop model is something I've been looking for for some time now. Tired of gnawing up the underside of my car with the Sears jack stands I have.

Group buy anyone?

I think the jackstands shown in Richies garage came with the Snap-On Scissor lift.

I was planning on putting some wood 2"x 8" under my stands to help protect the epoxy from scuffing.

I'll participate in a group buy, if they'll do it. However, I do have a little reservation about those stands.......... looking at them, are they truly that strong? Those little push pins need to support 100% of the weight that is resting on those jack stands! I'm not sure I want to rely simply on a pin to hold up a car over long durations?

Someone enlighten me on the strength of a single pin!!!!!

Yeah, the push pins are THAT strong. Bending is one thing, but shear strength is a whole nother. As long as the pin is through both sides, it wont bend on you. yes, they are in fact, that strong. Go on the snap on website and look at the first or second pair of jackstands that comes up. They are the ones with a roundish base on them like you were looking for.

I believe there is a typo on that website. They are using the term Newtons(N) when in fact they should be using Kilograms(Kg). If they really mean a 3000N jack stand, that is only about 670 pounds and that certainly can't be correct.

And yes, I am a school teacher.

3000N is the model name/number. It lists the capacity on the stand and on the site (6600lbs.).

At one time, ultgar offered a discount for members of the forum. There was another jack stand thread that started shortly after the forum went live. he made the statment in that thread but since the majority of his post have been deleted, I can not confirm the statement was ever made.

those jack stands were made by energy release. i have a set of two. i would like another set of two as i believe jack stands should be sets of 4. i like them but they are no longer made so i must live with a half set. for a little more info on them go to http://www.twoguysgarage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4846 . they were made in the USA. my other jack stands are a set of two lincolns that were supposed to be made in america but when the first two showed up had made in china on them so i canceled the other two. my only complete set (4) of jack stands are snap-on that to my understanding were among the last snap-on's to be made in the USA. i'd like another set (4) of stands but want made in USA so i keep looking. i want made in the USA for a couple of reasons, one i'm an American, two i'm a union American worker, who believes my money should, if at all possible stay in America.

stands from the following site are supposed to be made in america but i haven't verified that yet so i haven't order a set yet. if anyone can comfirm that they are made in America i'll order a set tommorow.

Jim, Believing money should stay in america has nothing to do with being a union worker, its simply having your head screwed on straight. I avoid buying overseas as long as I can afford too. Even if it means making a trip to another store. I dont like china, I dont like communists and I dont like chinese food.

Group Buys

The only successful group purchase I've ever done was with the Porsche 993 guys. One person handled the purchase, paid with 1 check and all 160 stands were sent to him to distribute to his group. The other purchases failed to come through with any volume and many were drawn out for weeks and months.

With a cost for a pair of 3000N flat top jackstands at $148/pair ($74ea), inbound freight of $11/pair (Baltimore to NJ), repackaging cost of $2/pair (boxes & tape...not time), profit of $24/pair (approx 15% of landed cost), and credit card fees of $5/pair, these are on my website at $95.00ea sale price. Retail is $154ea. Discount is close to 40%.

Now that you know my costs, its up to you guys if someone on the list wants to do all the work to give the others a better price.

For example, the importer will give free freight on 40 or more stands shipped to one location. If someone coordinates a GP of 40 or more stands, handles all the repackaging & shipping, pays me via personal check or money order (ie, no cc fees), and I reduce my profit to 10% , your cost will be reduced considerably.....$74ea WD cost + 10% ($7.40) = $81.40 per stand.....down from $95.

Who's willing to do the work? SD

Wow, ultgar...

I am not in the market for jack stands, but I thought it was pretty big of you to lay the cards out on the table and even offer to make less profit.

I'm impressed. There are some good folks on this forum.

I'd be interested in being the coordinator. Just wondering if someone more central should be the guy because of shipping prices?

Steve,
Do you have a weight on a pair of stands (3000N)?

Also, any problems with the circular pads marring the floor? Wondering if a thin layer of "rubber" adhered under each circular pad would be overly ****.

That's because I've sold enough of these and everyone thinks I'm making tons of money on them. If it weren't for the product liability issues, I could make some better stands myself here in the states.

Stands weigh approx 12-13 lbs each. The pads are there to protect the floor. Traditional stands with sharp corners will sink into hot asphalt and mark up your tile floors. SD

The $81.40ea price assumes someone in this group is willing to do all the work (approx 15 minutes or so per sale for repackaging, shipping via UPS, and administrative work) for free. If I do the sale and accept payment via credit card, handle the packaging, shipping, billing and take a $10 per stand ($7.50 after taxes) profit for my time , the cost per stand will be $93.00ea + outbound freight. This is for the 3000N-plus (with lower bracing) flat-top stand.

Once we confirm that me or someone else will take the responsibility, myself or that person will start a new thread. Just want to give people a day or two of fair warning. If no one steps up to the plate, then shipping will be from NJ (my location).

Nothing's wrong with it. It just doesn't have the flat rubber top. It comes with the standard metal top as shown in the pict I attached.

If you want the regular 3000n's, they will be $47.00ea. Same specs....no flat top post with rubber pad. Steve

bmwpower...thanks for clearing up the Newtons/Pounds thing. It's difficult for some of us to get out of "teacher mode".

Wolverine: Either you have that lift in your kitchen or you have the cleanest garage I've ever seen. Either way, most impressive.
