I read a few months (maybe up to a year?) ago that liftmaster had issues with doors opening at random times.

Does anyone know if these issues have been fixed and new units are trouble free? Is there another option?

Also, where is everyone buying theirs from? I see a few on Amazon but tend to be leery about expensive things from their, especially if that means all my garage contents could be up for grabs!

I have 2 units in my garage.

The only issue I have is that I have a 16ft wide door, and the 8500 sensors have a problem seeing each other when it's bright out. It's a pain, but I can close the door by holding down the button. I haven't spent a ton of time trying to correct it yet.

Other than that, they seem pretty solid. I got them on Amazon.

I have 3 Liftmaster 8500's, one on the house 16' door, and 2 on the barn O/H doors, I have not had any issues with them. No random openings at all

I have 3 of the new version of the Liftmaster 8500 (can't remember the exact model number - might still be 8500, but they are the WiFi capable jackshaft openers). Granted, they have only been installed since October, but I haven't had any issues. IIRC, the issue with the doors randomly opening was a problem with the wall controller. That controller design would also randomly fail, and cause the door to be inoperable. Liftmaster has redesigned the wall controller, and from what I've read, the newer design eliminated both issues.

I have two liftmaster 8500's, installed about 2 years now. I've never had that issue with either, have never even heard about it. I have a camera with motion detection in the garage and it sends alerts every time we come or go.

Both are connected with the wireless bridge so they can be open/closed or monitored from my phone. The openers are set to close themselves if left open 10 min, but the app is setup to send a notification any time the door is open for 7 min. Wife hates it, I know every time she fails to close the door. The mychamberlain website also keeps a log whenever the opener operates. I'd definitely know if they were opening at random.

Bought mine from North shore commercial door on Ebay.
