This is my first post so bear with me lol. I want to buy a used jack shaft opener for my 11 foot garage door in my pole barn but I’m curious if I buy a used one are they specific to left or right side? Or can you take a left side unit and make it work on the right side by just removing gears and chain and remaining it to the other side of the unit? Thanks!

They are all made for the bar to connect to either side as far as I have seen. It would not make any sense for them to manufacture left and right hand versions.

In our 2-car attached garage w/a loft, I specified jackshaft openers for the OH doors. It allowed me to place LED 4 ft lighting below the tracks so I had good overhead lighting whether the garage doors are open or closed. I also put side wall-to-side wall storage above the OH door tracks, which I use for lightweight but bulky things like empty storage bins, Christmas tree stuff/decorations, and anything else that fits.

Chamberlain has a hollow shaft, so it is left or right. We really like it. Nearly silent, phone app to operate it, plus it came with a conventional opener. Easy to install. Just needed to run an outlet to it.
