I am European but going to Jacksonville Florida next week.

In terms of tools what things are generally cheaper in USA than in Europe, euro currently worth 20% more than dollar.

Could do with a good big set of decent screwdrivers, with a proper case so can take them about and don't lose them. PH is the common screwdriver size in Europe.

Back to original question, what are the good brands and shops in Jax Florida if anyone from that direction is reading

I think a visit to the Jacksonville Woodcraft store would be fun. There are also several Harbor Freight stores in town. Enjoy your visit.

Take a walk around a Home Depot. (check electrical aisle)

Look in phonebook/online for any local industrial supply stores, they will generally but not always have small equipment rentals as well.

I would also agree with jimreed, check out a HF.

There's also a NAPA Auto Parts 0.5 miles from C. Supply. You might like the Carlyle line of screwdrivers.

NAPA Auto Parts - Genuine Parts Company,
6115 103rd St, Jacksonville, Fl, United States

A Harbor Freight store is less than 5 miles from both.

Sending him to HF will not do much for foreign relations. It will be difficult for him to exchange the inevitable defective tool. HF is hit or miss and if you live nearby and are willing to play games to get a good one, it may pay. I have my share of winners losers, exchanges and returns. The one term you will never hear in the same sentence as HF is QC.
