Jackstand storage ideas?

I have about 8 regular styled jackstands that I use on a regular basis, but when I am storing them on the floor they take up some valuable space. They don't nest together easily or neatly, and I'm curious as to how others are storing multiple jackstands.

Any ideas other than using a shelf mounted up high? I live in earthquake country and would like to keep these heavy things away from the cars.

Thanks,

try a dolly that will fit under the bench..........no bending and twisting to get at the one at the back...........i have used my creeper as a dolly and a piece of plywood to fit over the creeper to protect the padding.........with the added bonus of a dedicted board for floor work when needed..........i also have used the plastic totes that have the attached lids that intersect each other when trasporting them...........actually bmwpower, you could have used your old wooden creeper for this,,,sorry didn't mention it sooner as just came to mind...........hope this helps..........

I pull the center piece out, and then stack the stands under my bench. I can go 4 high. The centers are on a shelf next to the bench. Of course, the are usually "stored" under my Jeep (holding it up, actually).

I have the same number as you and place them on the bottom shelf of a large shelf unit that I bought at Home Depot.

One thing to keep in mind about this approach is how it would work in an earthquake. I see the OP is from Socal so he may be like me, who has experienced my share of earthquakes, so I keep this in the back of my mind when storing things.

Thanks guys....keep the ideas and photos coming. Indeed, I've always been leery of earthquakes....my dad owned a shop in San Francisco when the 89 World Series quake occurred. He had one car up on a 4 post and luckily, it just swayed a bit and sloshed the oil all around. We just kept the jackstands straddled across the body of the big Hein-Werner jacks and they were wheeled around when you needed to get a car up.

With my home shop, floor space is at a premium and so is toolbox drawer space. I'd like to get them up off the ground, but not necessarily up onto a shelf. Maybe some kind of bracketry, but I can think of anything creative right now. Gimme a few days.

I slide mine under the table saw. Easy to grab when I need them and I don't trip over them when I don't need them.

i've got a space between my tool box and my bench, perfect for storing the jack stands on the floor, and my extra creaper slids right in there too.

Yeah, all mine, plus two borrowed from a friend, are currently holding my junk up off the floor.
At some point I hope to free-up a couple of them, and when that happens, I've got a big 48-cubby nut and bolt storage bin. It's 3w x3.5t x1 deep. When I finish up my shop this April, I'll build a set of angle-iron legs for it that will be tall enough to stash some jack stands under it. The additional height will let the bolt bin do double-duty as a partition between the rest of my shop and the urinal too.
