Interesting, and innovative.

I have a full frame vehicle now, but if I had a vehicle that this applied to it would be an option for sure.

I think they are a very slick idea, only reason I don't own a pair...... Price. Go look them up, but make sure you are sitting. :shocking:

They really solve the problem of where to jack and where to put the stand. Since most modern vehicles are designed with a lift in mind these allow you to replicate that as close as possible.

If you work on framed vehicles not really that great, but for the smaller uni bodies, awesome. They are called jack point jack stands. If you search for them you will get many a hits.

I like the idea behind the whole design. However I don't like how the stand is fixed at one height. Anybody that wrenches on cars alot will know that you'll have to occasionally adjust the lift height for proper clearance/angle to r+r certain parts. Great for simple repairs, but may not be ideal for serious wrenching.

Fantastic!! I need a set of those!! I'm always jacking the car up and keep wishing I could use the lowest jack points which are the pinch welds on the outside perimeter of the car, but those are specifically designed for the car's spare tire jack.

I could use these! My car (bmw 330xi) does not have any good places to put a stand in the rear of the vehicle. I can put one stand under the differential but that's about it.

The more I look at it, the more I don't like it.

I like the concept and I like the idea- I don't like how he went about it.

-As I said above, I don't like that the stand is not adjustable. He shows that you can add another pad- that gives you less than an inch of additional height- But you cannot lower it and if you want to raise it, you'll have to drop a lot of money into buying a bunch of those recessed stacking pads.
- I don't like that you must buy different pads for different designs.
It should have on central pad that is adjustable for lower or greater height. Then, attachments for different makes and models. That would solve the adjustment issue as well as making the product a bit easier on the pocketbook.

I don't think it will be too long before a competitor improves on the design and offers a better and more economical product. As long as it's not made in Taiwan, I think there may be stiff competition for this product in the future. He would have been better off being the first on the market with the full adjustability and pricing than to try to recover later after competition takes his market away.

Hah.

So first, Leno introduces the guy who makes a magazine for the "economical home hobbyist" then touts how much he likes to promote American-made products.

So an HF jack features quite prominently when demoing an anything but economical jack stand?

You can easily get the powerbuilt all in one jackstand/jack.

However they don't lower easily unless you adjust them with a tension spring. Friend of mine managed to acquire a set of 4 for $20 each and modded them out.

I see a few complaints about price. I don't think who this is geared for is worried about money. It will probably see well to his intended crowd.

I love the idea. The fact that these are so short and with no height adjustment being possible kills the deal for me.

Long Beach CA, the sewer by the sea.
The inventor solved one problem and created another. But they do work for basic tire rotation, brake bleeds etc. IOW, good at the track because they are quick and stable on crappy paddock surfaces.

These were discussed on the Porsche forum a year or so ago.

Then there are these:

One of the Porsche guys came up with lift bars, a beam with two vehicle specific jack pads that let you lift one side of the car at a time and put the jack stands directly below the pad contact on the beams.

www.liftbars.com about $200, but lets you quickly put a car as high as you want on jackstands with full control on up and down.
