Among a couple other items I got yesterday at the Blue Mountain Antique Gas Associated flea market, is this Jacobs No. 11 Super Chuck. There is no N following the 11. I am wondering what the difference is. Also, it does not say "ball bearings" either. Jacobs only shows the 11 on their Web site and offers no discussion of the N versus the non-N.

Mostly I am wondering if the straight 11 has bearings. I may take it apart for a lube later.

Anyone know the skinny on this chuck?

That is a very old chuck. I have never seen one with the cursive script like that. Cool find.

I would guess it does not have ball bearings, as the housing isn't big enough.

The later chucks say "Super Chuck" to denote bearings, but are much larger.

I have a 14N Super Chuck, and it does say ball bearings. Maybe I can find an old tool catalog online that lists the 11 without the N, and its description may shed light on the subject, but hoping some more of you jump in the discussion.
