Guys wonder if you can give me some info on this new drill chuck i came across?

The chuck # is #64-J9,, 1/8-1/2 cap.

The chuck has a 1/2 inch drive socket hole in the rear instead of a M/T or threaded. The chuck is brand new unused still in the original box, and wrapped in the brown paper with the grease coating.

Is this for an impact wrench, and used like a hammer drill for concrete bits or??

Thanks much.

At first I thought you were describing a tap chuck. After looking up the model, it seems to be an impact driver chuck, never seen one before. Any reason it couldn't be used for a tap? I have the tap chuck and you need different size collets to use different taps. Seems like this would skip that, you would just have to depend on jaw grip.

I have one. I got it at a yard sale. Use it for large taps or if I need to drill something weird off the wall with a 1/2 drive impact or ratchet...think I've used it twice. It just sits in the top of the drill box. Cool to have if needed for sure.

EDIT: I don't think it was intended for masonry bits, nor would I use it for that. That's pretty abusing to the chuck jaws/threads.

Thanks guys, not sure just what to use this for, seems pretty brutal for an impact on a drill chuck, but it appears very HD made.

I also picked one up in a basket of impact sockets at a yard sale. Had no idea what it was at the time (must say it looks awfully strange connected to anything but an impact gun, please try it on a ratchet or breaker bar, just for kicks...). I still have little idea what they were intended for, but have thought they would be great with the impact gun and the larger screwdriver bits (like those used in the hammer type impact screwdrivers). I have never tried it with a drill bit, but since the chuck uses no key, I would think that the drill bit would spin in the chuck???

I hve used chuck like that on an air ratchet to drill in confine places. The air ratcht turns slower than a drill, but it works.

They are designed for ratchet use. You could use them with an air ratchet and not have to buy a right angle drill. There is a set with a 3/8 and 1/4 drive version that most truck brands offer. The 1/2 was by itself.

I believe the original use was the construction industry.
It is not uncommon to use electric impacts on construction sites to install/tighten bolts.
You can use the chuck adapter to drill holes typically in wood beams so you don't need 2 power tools when you are up in the air
