Here is a quick video I put together. Check it out, let me know what you think. I still have a lot to learn about filming and editing.

Video in link.

No complaints on the video, I just know what i like😆 And thanks, very watchable.
It’s almost embarrassing that I have never seen the guts of a chuck. I have wrestled with a few that needed that treatment. Is that collar pressfit the way all chucks are done?

Very good !

Points that were not clear or took away from the presentation:
Didn't catch what oil and grease you used, if important. Watching you put in the balls one-by-one tried my patience. And the chuck in the last frame has a different adapter than the one you worked on.

Good video. My comments:

1. What kind of pipe did you use to disassemble the chuck. Is it custom machined for that exact chuck or a generic size? If custom, you might want to show a different setup that doesn't require custom machining. I've always used the plates that come with the press.

2. You might want to hold the chuck over the bin when you insert the ball bearings. One lost ball bearing can ruin your whole day.

3. Maybe you should discuss evaluating the condition of the jaws. Sometimes a small burr can prevent the chuck from operating smoothly. ...and how much wear is acceptable before you need to toss the jaws.

Your photography was excellent, the video was succinct and you did't insert some stupid music!!

Clear video shows everything nicely. One observation, your not suppose to press on the jaws, retract them into the chucks body, press only on the chuck body. Some standard pipe sizes in steel, copper, sometimes even PVC will allow pressing, sizes vary according to chuck size.

According to Jacob, you retract the jaws half way and can press directly on them:

Ball bearing drill chucks:

Extend the jaws to half capacity, press the sleeve off over front (jaw end) of body, remove the nut halves, jaws, bearing race and thrust washer (Illus. E).

Well done on the video!

I'm not a fan of pressing directly on the jaws either. A 13/16", 12 pt, 1/2" dr socket works perfectly over the extended jaws on a 1/2" Jacobs chuck.

Thank you. I like to use gun oil and any type of automotive grease should work fine. I think moly thread lube would probably work well too.

Thank you for the comments. Yes the pipe was machined for this specific chuck, but the press plates could be used.

I do agree with everyone on this. It would have been safer to used some type of sleeve that fits over the jaws to press on.
