James66gs 2 car garage gets started

Ok guys so iam following another james dunno if he is still on here steps but i am in the process of redoing the garage in my new house to hang out showcase specs. I wont be doing heavy work in here just light stuff all body and heavy engine workwill be handled on a huge 2 car wide side slab or at freinds shops this is gonna be a spot to toss back a few cold ones light maintence and bench raceing. So far I have pulled all the carpet up and have been scraping the glue out I have a steam power washer on the way and am looking for ideas for color / paint scheme for the new garage want something differant not race shop more den/ fathers office like heer is a blank a sketch and an actual picture any guys with a designer/interior decorators eye would be appreaciated!

so far ill just be parking my Galaxie in there and maybe another motorcycle as soon as I can swing it

I don't really have anything to add, but I'll say that your sketches look great.
I love conceptual art. You should frame those up when the project is finished, along with any other design sketches you draw.

Can't wait to see the finished result.

I like the idea of using the corrugated metal on the lower wall. Put a chair molding above it and paint it a nicecolor. I painted mine red and used self-stick vinyl tiles below to create a checkerboard pattern.

You can never have too many cabinets either

Looks like a good idea so far. I'd definitely invest in some good overhead cabinets though, as already stated. Looks like most of your floor space is recreational, the overhead areas would be perfect for extra storage, cleaning supplies, parts, etc.

I like the corrugated lower wall covering. I've seen a few garages posted here with it and it gives a great affect.

Gonzo engineer > thanks man I actually saw it at the nor cal so cal speed shop here in sac and of coarse chipotle =) I think it will look cool to and protect the walls from being dented when moving/working does get done!

Cobra4b > I agree cabinets are a must but right now just trying to get some color ideas and get the flooring handled I am hoping to get a hold of an industrial steam pressure washer this coming weekend!

Didnt get anything done this weekend did the family christmas thing and drove from Fresno to Sonora and back to sacramento I am pretty beat!

SO I am still trying to get all the glue off my damned garage floor I have tried everything and nothing seems to get the job done I am pretty much about to throw my hands up and surrender! Well surrender to paying some guy to grind that **** out that is! I have been sketching some ideas and thought well at least I can post something. I am not really happy with the murals but it was an idea swirling around in my head so I tried to put it on paper still a work in progress. The Bear idea I got when a buddy and I were watching TV and saw this add for fatheads its like a vinyl sticker of football players but life size so I thought how awesome to have a bear skin rug but vinyl that looked hella realistic on the floor ? I dunno I thought it was funny.

Bearskin rug in vinyl would be awesome... but you would probably grow tired of it as the novelty wears off... unless of course you did you garage in a hunting cabin or ski lodge theme

hi,what colours would u like to use?,keep them simlular to your car colours, or the colours u would usually go for in a car...
il be posting some pics of my garage soon if you'd like some ideas.i have some nice affordable cabinets i bought
they are silver,they look great, the colours im into myself would be silvers and black, small items of any colours will go well with the black and silver... the bear idea is good make him look cool

Ahhh gotcha... thought you meant you would build it into the floor as an inlay like some guys do.

Cobra4b > no have you seen those football commercials called fat heads? they are like peel and stick removable life size foot ball players that look super real ( supposedly) and i would only do it of the Bear looked real except ********* xs over its eyes.

Well I hate to get my hopes up but sounds like I might have a guy out this friday to grind off all the glue and start the coating I may have to give up staining

They are getting started! ground out all the glue yesterday what a difference having the right tool makes ! No that isnt me after three weeks of trial and error mostly error I broke down and called in a pro! He started at 9 and was done by 3!

Here is some close up of what tools they used! Man they worked so well for getting this glue out they are grinders with diamonds cast in the metal didnt gum up at all! he used the big one attached to a shop vac and really not much dust escaped at all the little one to grind all the glue and **** out of the seams!

So josh showed up and started heating the garage with the kerosene jet heater and we did a final pick of the colors. cross your fingers! I guess they normally dont do garages mostly commercial staining and coatings, but doing stuff like mine gives em a chance to try out new and different stuff. Kinda scary but if nothing else at least I know what to by to grind it all back out right!?

I AM SO HAPPY! I haven't seen anything like this on the Garage journal and it looks so incredible! its almost like a translucent candy copper with metal flake mixed in! its just looks incredible I cant get any pictures of it with the sun on it yet cause well there isn't any sun but when there is I will post some! Josh and I went back and forth on it but he after getting the whole floor covered got a hand pump chemical sprayer and did a radial spray from the outer parameter in of a darker brown and more flake so the whole garage floor has a guitar like fade dark on the edges and lighter to the middle and were ever you stand it looks a sightly different shade! So cool! enjoy the shots!

You can already see how crazy and translucent it is the flaws in the garage floor make different designs and really give it character I am glad that we didn't fill in the seams because the patch would have been very visible or well you know that might have even looked cool to! I wish you guys could really see just how much metal flake is in there but I guess you will when we continue the build!

The more time goes on and the more the material was worked wither with the squeegee or with the big roller the more the look seemed to change its really subjective we counted out all the same mix of pearly copper color and metal flake and made sure the second batch matched the first. We were all kind of nervous and this was a color that Josh had never done before!

The last picture in the previouse post you can see the stripe of the darker brown mixed with acetone and more flake to darken the edges around the perimeter! Man suce a differance at this point it looked so cool we were all worried about doing to much more and totally dicking it up! but that was all yesterday I am going to not touch this for a week letting it cure as long as I can and next weekend we will test it make sure its dry enough and then cover it all up with a tarp and start painting the walls! here are some pics from this morning so far a few bubbles have popped up and gone away but other than that it just looks awesome! I dont normally do this but here are some emoticons! To assist in iterpreting my reactions to the floor! first then and finally folllowed by thats right I ended with pimp flash...... just how my garage floor rolls! HA! enjoy! And so much more to come I have the colors figures out but not the speaker mounts or the tv mount I was gonna use an old tube tv but might have to go with a cheap flat screen. hmmmmmm oh and cabinets!

Wow! He did the floor with a hand grinder? That's balls.

So the diamond wheel on the grinder got the glue off OK? Or was it something else?

Thanks the glue was a beat but with the right tools it came up like nothing Any one that has a carpeted floor PLEASE PLEASE dont bother with anything else if you want it removed!
