Mine claims it can detect if you placed it on too thin metal to have a good hold. It will then disable the drill. I'm not sure if this is the problem with yours, but it'll be easy enough to try it on the thickest metal you can find.

I'm guessing it's not a fuse. I'd guess there's one fuse for the whole thing. Since the magnet is working, I'm betting the fuse is good.

Next, I'd look at the switches. See if you're getting power to the motor when you hit the on-switch.

Tap the brush housing with a mallet with the power switch on. Might be near the end of the brushes and one has become jammed in it's guide.

The motor power switch is another possibility.

I'm not sure about the Jancy drills, but the Houghans we use have a pin in the center of the magnet that won't let the drill start if it isn't stuck on to the steel real good pushing the pin in.

IE if there is a lump of galvanizing, drill filing or some other **** under the magnet, the drill won't start when you push the start button.

You will get the same effect if the metal is to thin and the magnet isn't holding the drill down good enough to push the pin in.

The last hole I drilled was without the pin, it is a smaller bit and I'm waiting on a pin to be shipped to fit it for another project. So I don't think that's it, but I will try a bigger bit with the pin to eliminate that. Shouldn't matter, it starts spinning before the pin or cutter touches steel, so it's not "smart" as such.

Normally, it can lay on its side on the bench, not magnetized to anything, and the chuck will turn. As far as I remember. It never fucked up on me before.

The safety pin / switch I was talking about is in the magnet, not the center pin for the bit. Maybe the Jancy's don't have them.

We have several Jancy drills and have had very good service. Sometimes the circut board will give up without warning. If the drill is on the piece and somebody strikes an arc it can fry the board. Usually if we have a problem it is a loose wire or brushes.

I know the post is six months old but that's okay, someone might get the help I did.
Working on a Jancy Slugger today. I have had Milwaukee but never one of these. This one is older and needed the cord replaced. Replaced the cord, magnet worked but drill won't turn. I checked, bypassed and checked again, still the drill won't turn using the control push button. Looked on this site and read this post. Never heard of such a thing but I am willing. Throw a piece of scrap under the drill and push the button. Works like a champ.
Now I have to put it all back together again... tomorrow.
Thanks. Never too old to learn something new. BTW, there is no pin that has to be depressed on this model. Magnet has to be stuck to something.
