Jane's house is my garage. Jane is my 1970 Camaro I've been restoring since 1989. I built this garage in 1996, and have been "making it better" as I go along. It's 24 x 24. Wish it was bigger. (Don't we all?)

A couple of months ago I bought this old Quincy 310 air compressor from a gas station turned cigarette store. Sounded like a sewing machine. It ran a two bay shop. Paid $300. It was so heavy I had to take it apart to move it. The pump alone weighs 150lbs.

I cleaned it up and painted it.

I started to put it back together yesterday.

"If I had known how much work this was, I never would have started!"....Amen brother. It took me 11 years to do my 65' Impala!

Nice clean shop. I like the old aluminum cased tools in the cabinet. I try to find them to use. I have had better luck with the old tools and for the most part they are cheaper. Kudos on the air compressor as well. I wish I could find one like that. I have a new one I bought around 98. I have had to rebuild the pump twice and I need to do it again. I don't even use it that much. This new stuff doesn't last like the old stuff does.

The alum tools belonged to my Grandfather. The old stuff being better I have to agree.

Completed assembly of "Big Blue" and wiring. She runs good. Not too bad for $300!! Just need to run the black steel air lines $$$

My poor man's wire wheel!! Old dual squrriel cage fan motor.

That looks "Brilliant" and "Terrifying" at the same time. Nice idea, not sure I'd follow it. But that's just me.

How much in the way is the compressor to that switch panel?

The long shaft makes it easy to move large objects around the wire wheel.

The door on the panel swings clear of the compressor.

Thanks!

I am so making a wire wheel like that. i might skip the vise part of it tho ;)

my plan was to have multiple wheels on it like a burnisher and perhaps and sharpening stone on a collapsable axle that tucs away under the bench and just pull it out when i need it. havent finished the plan in my head yet but it will be fun to make and use.

I'd rather have a wire wheel exposed than guarded. With it in that configuration, you can access areas on parts that you normally can't with a guarded wheel. Also, I find that parts don't get caught like they do in a guarded situation.

If it was turned 90 degrees and hanging out over the floor, you can use it on very large pieces and long pieces.

Very nice. I was studying the pic trying to imagine where the TV cable mounts for 700r4. My father bought an 86 Shortwide to play with in retirement, it has a nice SBC already, but a low profile blower like that would be nice. It resembled the L67 style blower on the 3800 and caught my eye :)

F70SC? I like the art, just don't understand the meaning.

Great working shop. What is the ceiling made of?
