okay so im new on this site and was just wondering whether the US and UK are as obsessed with Japanese cars like Australia?

might sound like a stupid question, but its a serious problem down here :\

i love american muscle and its so rare to see them where i live, completely unfair, and if i wanted to buy one it'd cost me an arm an leg - if anyone was wiling to sell - which by the way, their not.

but if anyone wants anything Japanese, we have it, ugh.

comments?

From my observations, Australia and New Zealand people are more obsessed with German vehicles .. :)

Welcome from another Aussie, Sorry I think you have it wrong about that obsession. I just think it is cars in general.
When the dollar was good I could see many new imports coming here, (sadly) that did not last long.
Where abouts are you ?

Just wait till we see the Chinese cars.......MG copies etc. ( Rolls Eyes )

I can say without a doubt, there are groups of people who are "Jap obsessed" although the lingo we use here is a bit different... The vernacular term is RiceBoy...
http://riceboypage.com/what_is_riceboy/

So, yes, we have our share of NOS poseurs, fart-can mufflers, and slammed civics wanting to race anything that moves. Glad to hear we aren't alone...

On the plus side, have you ever seen the WOMEN associated with this group?

Yep...Hondas and Toyotas are big with the kids around here. I don;t get it either...my 03 Cobra has more torque in the lugnuts than those cars make!

That said...I love the Aussie Valiant Chargers, Falcon XBs....awesome.

I actually wonder how many women do associate with this group lol most guys i talk to are utterly amazed that i can do a service on a car let alone anything else, :lol_hitti

Riceboy, HAHAHA thats hilarious!! im sending that link to a rice-boy i know :))
but that link is 100% true, drives me crazy, HA

thats what irritates me because all Rice-Rockets :) are **** off the production line and MUST be done up to be ANY good, take other cars...not the case!
audi's latest cannot be modified (or only a few things can be), pretty sure because its perfect the way it is :)

so you've had a dodge, and chevy and decided jap cars were better???????????

fair enough,
cannot understand that, since i like v8 power, cars that dont need to be done up to be good,
and cars where "...the noise comes out of the engine not the muffler" (my sisters saying)

so basically, in my opinion jap cars are no where near as good compared to every other car, however as soon as the japanese come up with a brilliant car i'll be the first to admit i was wrong, until then...i'll stick with muscle cars thankyou.

but i'll give you this, atleast you tried other cars, not just jap :)

I guess you do nothing but hang out with the guys that bring a bad name to auto enthusiast. We are not all fart can owning rice rockets.

Close-minded is close-minded no matter what you like, domestic or import.

What would be the name for every slow v6 equipped mustang that toys with me? :D

I can do piece by piece. :D

I am a big WRX fan. My wife and I each own one.

The shame is when it goes both ways.

When I think fast I think funnycar (Domestic).

When I think luxury I think BMW.

Safe I think older Volvo.

Eco friendly is a Honda or Toyota hybrid.

mmm yes true, i used to not mind japanese cars but then it was too much in my face and i realised for me its not what i like, at all, nothing, i like my V8, move the f**k outta the way muscle cars :) lol not done up copies, sorry.

oh cannot believe you and your wife own WRX's, tut tut :)
i see way too many for my liking,

see in my opinion,
if you want muscle, get an american car (or aussie)
speed, get italian
luxury, get german,
safety, french

and a cheaper version of any of the above, japanese.

a WRX is the fastest car in its price range dont get me wrong, no point buying anything else in that range cuz a WRX IS the fastest, but out of all the cars in the world, its not the fastest, and iv talked to so many people that think it is, put 10k on a WRX and it'll beat any ferrari,
yep sure, but im also positive if you put enough money on a wheelbarrow it'll go fast too :p

piece by piece? done deal, i'll put it together :):):):)

The other thing is the group of guys i hang out with and my self all have 300-700whp import cars (dyno and track proven, no BS) My SX puts out over 600 and I have helped build many 300-700whp civics.

So we are not the fart cannon crowed (but you need 3-4" echaust for that much power)

Think about it. When the Mussle Car generation got their taste in cars, these were available new from the dealer. Now that these cars are more cool to own than ever before, the cost is out of this world. I remember passing up a 69 Z28 with a missing engine and a perfect body and interior for $250. The guy had wrecked his other mode of transportation and needed something to drive to work. I still kick myself everytime I see a 69 Z. Hold on, need to stand up and kick myself again... Ok, I'm back. On with my comment. Kids today can't afford the old mussel cars and the new american with any HP are out of reach and the forget about a high end German car. So what choice do they have? May a Chrysler "K" car or a Saturn, or maybe a Buick. They are going to the Japanese cars because they are cheap, light in weight and can be modified with good results for little money. A few Zeros and Ones in the coumputer and a cold air induction and a fart can exahust and they are happy.

i completely agree (still dont like jap cars but agree) im 18 and theres no way im going to afford a muscle car, but that doesnt mean i cant appreciate a good car :) im sick of jap ****, i like my cars dinosaur V8's, big and lazy, with massive rear tyres :)

its just most jap fans think jap cars are the best in everything which really irritates me, and i hate it when ppl say put 10k on a WRX and it'll beat any Ferrari, well who cares, put enough money on a wheelbarrow and it'll go too, but thats not the point,
besides even if it did beat a Ferrari, its just a WRX compared to a FERRARI, say it, lol

what i wouldnt give for a muscle car, thinking 71' chevelle SS, ford GT falcon, mustang, hmm 67' impala....

your right to kick yourself! :) id kick you too, lol

I'm a Japanese car nut as well :) Especially old-school JDM.

I wish I had the ability to import JDM cars, like you guys have in Australia.

Some of the Jap cars are NOT allowed in as they are not legal here.
