Japanese screwdrivers

On my recent vacation to Tokyo, I was on a small quest to get some good Japanese tools (as much as the wife would let me). I found a huge department store called Tokyu Hands that carried some tools. With the crappy exchange rate right now and the high prices in general in Japan, I couldn't afford much.

I ended up getting these Anex screwdrivers. The two black ones are standard #2 phillips, and the red one is ratcheting. I haven't used them yet, but the handle feels great in my small hands. Might not be so comfortable for bigger hands. I also did see some beautiful ratchets by KTC and Nepros, but they were way too expensive. Anyway, here is a pic to share. I plan to use these screwdrivers daily and hopefully they will hold up.

d33pt,

Thanks for posting pictures of your Japanese hand tools.

Does the red Anex ratcheting screwdriver have a model number of "395-D"? If yes, is it a course or fine tooth screwdriver?

Thanks,

Dave

d33pt,

Besides seeing Anex, KTC, and Nepros, which other Japanese brand hand tools were available for sale at the Tokyu Hands store?

Thanks,

Dave

It does have 395-D on it, and it is a fine thread. That's why I bought it. Felt really nice.

I also saw Vessel screwdrivers, and some sockets/ratchets by Siignet I think? And one other Japanese brand that started with a K, but the rest of it escapes me now. I should've taken some pics while i was there.

Koken! That was it. I saw some ratchets and sockets from them. I don't remember Keiba.

Which Tokyu Hands did you go to? Shinjuku or Ikebukero? I think the Shinjuku branch is slightly larger. Tons of eye candy for hobbyists, but a little on the pricey side.

You can always get Nepros in The USA from Nepros.net for a considerable savings on the Japanese prices. They don't have the leather or wood handled ratchets or breaker bars though :(

I ordered a nepros catalog and was notified about it, when it came it was a ktc catalog and there were no nepros tools in it. Is nepros a higher line of ktc?
The finish did not seem the same as the nepros i have seen. Inquiring minds want to know.

I went to one in Shinjuku and another in Yokohama. The Yokohama one seemed to have more stuff I think.

d33pt,

Were the Koken ratchets and sockets at Tokyu Hands more reasonably priced than their counterparts from KTC and Nepros?

Thanks,

Dave

I believe the Koken stuff was between the KTC and Nepros as far as pricing went.
