Jaw puller tip question

I have several jaw pullers that have pointed tips on the end of the center screw. Most things I use these on don't have (for lack of a better description) have an inverted cone shape the tips would engage properly, rather it's usually just a flat surface so they are starting to get messed up slowly but surely.

Would anyone happen to know if there are inserts of sorts available that could be placed between the tip and the workpiece that would spare the tips from damage?

Get a thickish metal disc and use a centre drill to create the countersink, then pop that underneath the tip of the screw when you use it.

Pretty sure OTC sells/sold those, I make my own on the lathe. I keep a couple different types I made in my steering wheel puller kit.

Thanks for the replies. Good ideas. I don't own any countersinking bits (or a lathe, for that matter), but maybe I can play around with a couple different sized drill bits to approximate the look of a countersink. I've got lots of different diameter metal rods and slugs laying around I could practice on.

In the meantime, if anyone else knows where I might be able to buy a ready-made one feel free to chime in..

Yes, Proto makes a set of various sizes and so does OTC.

Chicom sockets.. just put them in between puller screw and item.. use a smaller drive then the screw can go threw..

This is what I have done in the past. Just watch out for flying metal if the cheapo socket shatters under the pressure if what you are pulling is on there really tight!

I dont know about you, but I watch for exploding metal any time I am pulling anything.. socket or not something can always let go..
