JC Penney tool box

I just found this CL ad and I'm hoping to go pick it up later today.

Any idea on the vintage of this box? Manufacturer and possible worth?

At the price it's listed I'm not too worried about it being worthless, but more info on it would be pretty cool..

I`m thinking it`s from the 60s-70s. My dad had one, wish I still had it.They are good quality. I don`t recall mfg. Good deal $15-$25

he also has this kennedy box loaded up with some machinist tools for $125 which im considering, but it might be a little pricey for me right now.

20 miles is nothing unless you're walking and $10 bucks is a steal, I'd say $30 - $35 wouldn't be bad for that box in nice shape. Coincidentally I just sold the same box.

I should have clarified... 40+ miles round trip on my lunch break in a 10mpg blazer with no a/c in 90+ degree heat = no fun,

But I believe the box comes with the misc tools that are pictured in it, so I'm planning on going for it.

Oh I forgot to mention that the box doesn't have the keys, which is a minor issue, but it may detract from it's value for some..

Mickey and you think you have it bad with no A/C in Chicago. This guy is in FL. So you will have $10 + $10 in gas, tough it out and go get it. Just call first to tell them you are on the way and make sure it`s available.

Buy more stuff to make the trip worth while. I feel your pain with no AC, mine went out recently, bring some cold beer in a cooler with to keep you cool. When I'm going somewhere that's a distance I type the city and surround areas in the search box in craig's list and see if there is anything else out that way that I might be interested in, I also type in tools and pawn shop in my GPS when I'm in the area and see what pops up.


Coincidentally again I'll be listing a J C Penny toolbox on craig's list today.

Congrats on getting the boxes. you'll be happy with the quality and how many people have a J.C,.Penny box? Heck, My dad, my brother, my niece and I all worked for Penny's and I don't have one. And I have bought and sold at least 20 small hand boxes.

I'm not sure if he's talking about expelling it 20 miles or crapping over a distance of 20 miles and would that be walking or in a vehicle, it would be nice to get some clarity on this matter.

That looks like an old rebranded Irwin. My dad has a couple from when he was in the army in the 40's and 50's. I have a couple I picked up years ago as well. They're great. Sadly, Irwin no longer makes them. Another company sells them but they're imported.

alla these new fangled cars and stuff with AC

i lived in fl for 15 years, never owned a vehicle with AC, and most places i lived didnt have AC.
when i bought a house i had to run the AC, none of the friggin windows would open.
i havent turn the AC on in my truck in several years, the only time i use the AC in my service truck is at the end of the day, on the way home just to get the cab cooled down, then i shut it off.

I had a 1/4" JCPenney socket set that I gave away (basically) on eBay. I've got some 3/8" Penney sockets yet in the basement that are going out in the next yard sale. Why? Well, because I bought a set of Craftsman (the 260 piece set) at a decent price. And the quality is very nice, thank you.

i like the jcpenney box. i can't see any of the pics but the first one of the kennedy box. maybe it's just me, i sometimes have problems seeing pics. You planning on re-storing the boxes?

also, you guys make me laugh, i must have it lucky. Every vehicle my parents have had, have had perfect AC, i live in a pretty new house with perfect AC and we turn the AC on when it hits 75+ degrees F in Northeastern Wisconsin!

Boy o boy, you must not live in the woods, I have to drive 46 miles round trip to get to the nearest tool store or any store with something actually in it. And in an 93 F250 with great gas mileage

sears is a 30mile round trip. i drive 60 mile round trip to work, and school is a 12 mile round trip.

in a truck that gets between 6(winter)-13( summer).

Not having AC isn't bad as long as you are moving, or if there is shade to park in. Unfortunately there isn't much shade where I park, and Tampa traffic can get pretty bad!

If any of you have seen my thread about getting the shed's electric working, I was literally dripping sweat yesterday out there. Today I am going to go buy a fan for the shed!

I'm in Orlando. I feel your pain, the heat is rough. I have an industrial 32" pedestal fan at work. Works good, blows alot of HOT air at you. Oh well, the joys of living in the "sunshine state". Later...

I think the Penny's box may have been made by Kennedy.The Penny's chest and top box that I bought new in the 70's have Kennedy locks on them.

Yeah, definitely. I haven't had a need for any of the machinist tools yet, but when the time comes I'll be really glad I have them.
