JC's Legacy Floor

I have posted in my build thread my floor coating but thought it would be good to share with those just looking in the flooring thread.

First this is my 2nd time at doing a floor coating first being a U-coat it job on my attached 3 car when the house was new 10 years ago

For my new shop I wanted something better. I spent lots of time researching and finally decided to go with Legacy. I must say Scotty answered every question I had and he is close enough that I can track him down if need be J/K Scotty

heres what I put down
*Epoxy primer coat tinted to med grey
*HD Epoxy Floor coating Med grey
*HD322 clear coat
*custom mix of flake

Now I received my product in mid to late February and I knew I needed 2 main things
#1 have plenty of free time I'm lucky every other weekend I get Friday - Monday off
#2 pray to the weather gods I'm in central Florida after all

Needles to say it took a few months before the moons aligned

my number one concern was the concrete grinding. I understood but since my concrete guy spent hours with a power towel to make it smooth I felt bad
Being the cheap *** that I can be I decided to rent the grinder from HD on a Friday night after 7 that way its not due back till Saturday morning.

I'm not 100% sure I got the right head even thou I ask is this the diamabrush head and was told yes

So my youngest son ( the one with the VW tattoo) and I spend Friday night grinding the floor and before anyone ask yes I did try hooking it up to the shop vac but that seemed to turbo charge the problem





Finished up (or so I thought)

next up was cleaning up this is where part of my time line plan started to unravel. See I figured grind on Friday night clean for a few hours on Saturday and have primer down by just after noon so that Sunday I put down the base and the flakes Monday the clear. sound simple
Lets just say clean up can take a bit first I vacummed with my billygoat, yhen the shop vac after that I got the pressure washer out but it didn't want to play nice so I used a power wash nozzle





I will say this when I got done cleaning it up I wish I still had the grinder there were spots we missed

I even had the bright idea to break out a spare house hold vac for the final clean up.



So Next thing I know its like 4 pm on a Saturday and we still need to get primer down It's just me and #3 son I ask you game on this? and we went for it



I mixed the product as instructed 1 batch at a time. NOTE I choose not to fill in the expansion joints several people (including scotty) suggested other wise call me nuts but it did help break the area up into quarter sections which worked well with the amount of product I had to put down.

I set up a Gopro to catch this process since me and the son would be busy thankfully we took some others near the end as the gopro had an issue

it was getting around sunset when we finished you can see in this pic that I left the roll up doors cracked to keep any large animals out and hope ny in the am it would be dry enough for the top coat



This is how much primer I had left over I felt like we cut it close

Now call me nuts (I've heard it before) but while waiting for the primer to dry it was time to work on the flakes but not the way you think. See Scotty sent me 10lbs of it and since the expansion joints devide the shop into 1/4's that should mean 2.5lbs per section so I measured out 2.5 lbs to see how far it would go withn the 1st 1/4. after all I didn't want to come up short

Sunday morning the primer was dry time for the base coat Now it said this stuff has a short pot like and I had 4 gals + hardener to apply so it was 1 square at a time again not a lot of work pics as this stuff will keep 2 people very busy . The instructions say to pour it out in ribbons in the first section AKA square I painted my self in a corner so on the next 3 I had my son pour it out as I went along rolling it out.
first I made sure every thing was ready





I even took the time to make a test toss on the primer before starting the base coat

1 square at a time is what I told myself top coat down lets see how far 2.5 lbs of flake goes







I did the 2nd 1/4 the same way but on the 3rd and 4th I did the flake all at once

Monday morning I was all alone to put the clear coat down. I did set my go pro up and did a time lapse just haven't had time to put it together yet

Its not a perfect job I screwed up in some spots with the flakes and I didn't even use 1/2 of the 10lbs that I bought. this is a working garage and the floor will get some abuse but here are some finished pics

After letting it cure for a week and I mean 7 days I moved the main resident in and 1 thing I noticed while on my but putting the jack stands under the car the floor is so slick its feels like your sitting on wet concrete. Plus I really love the reflection of the car on the floor

Something that made me feel real good was a friend of mine that is doing my soffit and also helps another friend that does floor coating told me that when he first saw it he was afraid to walk on it it looked so good

One of my mistakes was this brown spot by the man door then the #2 son looked at it and low and behold. You know the old saying if the shoe fits well in this case it is more like if the foot fits the print and yep it was me late sunday night I wanted to close the roll up door just a little more and it felt dry enough by hand to handle my bare feet wrong oh well I signed it in my own little way



Also when they say don't let the floor coating sit in the mixing bucket and to pour it out in ribbons. I poured what was left of the last batch into an empty gal can I had about 3/4 gal left over let me tell you boy did that can get HOT

I am planning to put a 4" rubber/vinyl cove molding down just need to decide grey or black

They were 1/4" and it was a custom mix I at one point thought about putting a 10% red in the mix but talked myself out of it
