My son inlaw wants me to patch up his CJ-7 frame. From the front of the rear spring mount back it's pretty much Swiss cheese. Forward of that is good and solid for the most part. I have a fab shop near by that does CNC plasma cutting and I'm going to call Monday for a price to cut 4 side rail pcs. And I'll just make new frame rails to graft on.
My question is are these parts available aftermarket! I know there are some jeep guys on here that have way more experience than myself!
Any tips or links apriecated

Autorust needs to fix the years on those CJ frame pieces. Looks like they transposed 76 for 67 as the beginning of the range.

I just patched a YJ frame with an autorust piece. It was alright. For what it was I thought it was a little pricey but it was exactly what I needed. Welds from the factory were pretty good and all the bolt holes lined up. You can't ask for much more.

Your frame looks pretty rough. I don't see much worth patching on that. Check the front of the frame where the steering box mounts. That should be shot also.

Best of luck

Throttle Down Kustoms makes replacement frames for cj's. Quadratec carries them but they may have their own web page. A little over a grand for a cj7. Good luck, hope whatever you do turns out great.

I've had a few AMC-era jeeps and in my experience when the back of the frame is that bad the rest of the frame isn't a whole lot better. It can certainly be fixed and if all your son wants is a beater to bang around in the woods with go ahead and plate it up and use it but if he's restoring the Jeep you'll save a lot of time and frustration by starting with a better frame. My '82 Scrambler is completely rust free but the frame is stress cracked and tweaked in a dozen places from 250,000 hard miles and when it comes time for a redo I'm going to replace it.

oh man....so what about the rust inside the "good" sections that you cant see?

i would weld on some rectangular tube that's close to the right size, make a shackle hanger & move on. you're going to spend a shitload of money & time doing it right only to have it fail when the rest of the frame starts to go.

I personally would just replace that frame. You will dump a bunch of money in it and other areas will become an issue. Last year I sold a solid restored CJ7 frame for $300. There are deals out there.

Just got price from the fab shop. He's going to CNC plasma cut 4 side pcs, and cut and form 2 tops and 2 bottoms for $100.00. I'll weld it all together and the son inlaw can take care of the rust on the rest of the frame! We are just making a beater for busting around in the woods. I'll post some pic's when we get going. Probily won't get the parts back from the fab shop till next week.
