Jeep Comanche 4sale

My son was working on a 1987 Jeep Comanche Sport Pickup truck, but got married, had a son, put his wife through school and then recently lost his job.
His Jeep has been sitting for a few years now...He needs to sell it...doesn't want to, but...
He needs the cash more.
I guess I'd like to find out if anyone would be interested in it.
It Is a very Solid Jeep...no real rust.
A nice Fiberglass Cap with sliding windows, a bed liner...almost perfect bed.
Jeep was Black but now Olive Green Metalic Pearl.
Came with a 4 cylinder motor and 4 speed...still have the ******...but has a rebuilt 1980 Chevy small 267 V-8 motor...V-8 mounts, and setup for automatic ******.(no trans yet)
It is a rear wheel drive only...with leaf springs flipped and Larger factory front springs. On the Jeep is factory Tires and wheels, but Stored are Mickey Thompson Oversized 15x8 aluminum wheels and Yokohama Tires.
The Jeep needs to be finished...Tons of Parts go with it. There are no rear bumper.
It would be a great project for someone, or a father/son project or even drop a stock drivetrain in from someones rusted out Jeep.
I know that the Comanche is not that Common on the street...some people never even realized Jeep made a pickup.

Love to get at least $2000 for everything...Or sell everything seperately...(engine) (jeep) (tire/wheels) (trans). Jeep Guys, Let me know your thoughts!

My Son has gotten Very Serious about the sale of his Jeep Comanche truck...
The Pickup, as it sits, can be had for $800.
The Engine, can be had for $400.

Again, the Jeep can be switch back to a 4 or 6 real easily...if you have a Jeep thats badly rusted or banged up, with a good drivetrain. Or finish the v-8 conversion. It does come with the entire bed full of parts.
thing to note...no transmission for v-8, but I do have the original 4-speed trans.
....................bed is not bolted in place right now, it can be straped down for transport.
....................no engine under the hood, v-8 engine is on stand and wrapped up.
....................rearend is under leaf springs (flipped) but not fastened with brackets yet.
....................was a 4-speed, but swapping for auto...console and shifter in.
....................picked up slider window for cab, but not in place.
....................no exhaust under Jeep, but have the exhaust from V-8 (impala)
Really its a solid simple Jeep Comanche Pickup Project for someone to have fun with...
Again...$800 takes the Jeep, $400 takes the V-8 Motor -or- Both for $1000
A Great little project for someone to take home and Play with.

We Got a break in the Chicagoland weather, it will perfect this weekend for scooping it up and hauling it away.

Oh, I forgot, needs bumpers (cheap) and the Oversized Tires-Wheels were sold, So it goes with the original wheels and tires that it came with (in photo).

Awwww **** I'd be all over that if you were a few thousand miles closer. All the Comanche's I find around here are barely good for scrap metal.

'Jeep' comes from slurring the letters GP. In WWII the Ford built jeeps were built in two versions.

1) the Ford prototype design called GP. (very rare only 3200 built, about 350 survive around the world). It (the GP) lost the army's contest to Willys (MA, version 'A').

2) The army asked Ford to build copies of the improved jeep Willys (MB, version 'B') had designed. Using Willys blueprints. This copy was called the GPW. (350,000 or so built).

GP Never stood for 'General Purpose' !!! THIS IS THE MIS-INFO. It is Ford Factory Terminology. All vehicles Ford built for the government started with a 'G' for Government. Following was a letter which stood for the wheelbase. GA, GB, GC, GD, GE, etc, getting longer each time.

When they got to 80 inches (jeep size) they were at 'P'. When they were forced/asked to build jeeps using Willys design - they added a 'W' to it.

The army never even called it a jeep, officially it was 'Truck, 1/4 ton'.

Not that a few miles here or there would make a difference, but I am 50 west of Chicago, so no city traffic anyway...But thanks for replies so far.

It is, and was, a 2 wheel drive truck...very simple, 4 banger...4 speed...manual steering...manual brakes...buckets...no air...Black "sport" pickup. Very solid, vertually rust free pickup.

I really would love someone, who has the extra space and time and money to finish this little jem. Like I said...$800 for the truck (and all the parts)...$400 for a "O" mile 1981 chevy 267 (0.30 over) complete v-8 motor...or $1000 for the whole project.

Really is hard to beat...and you will help my Son's pocket book!
A Great Father-Son project...light weight, simple, cheap parts and not too may on the road anymore.

rbrtawhyt, thanx for the history lesson, very informative and gotta admit i always heard the general purpose story and believed it...........reason i asked was a guy at work mentioned it stood for " just empty every pocket"........
