Hello fellow GJ'ers

What with Jeeps being somewhat of a niche thing in the UK there isn't much in the way of support for diagnostics, say as in your VAGCOM for VW other than buying Chrysler's own Witech.

Which of course they want to relieve you of a vast amount of money for, so I was wondering what diagnostic you guys in the states are using and what coverage it gives you?

I was looking at covering from about mid 2000's upward so not drb3 more startech onward.

Thanks
CB

Many of us with Mercedes ( Dodge) Sprinters and Diesel Jeeps from that era use the AUTEL scanners like the MD802. It successfully talks MB and is able to read proprietary codes, full live data lists and clear all system( ABS SRS BODY ) codes. It can be found about $150 USD +/- $50.

AUTEL has many other scanner some with di directional communication. Support can vary by region or location and the selling dealer. As a side note the MD802 when connected to a Honda product gives the exact data list as the factory scan tool.

For those not in the know, the link in post 3 addresses some of the communication protocols used on these vehicles.
( Mercedes other products from the Chrysler marriage like Sprinters do use OBDII but only for generic codes. Sub codes, proprietary codes and other info is either lost or reported to the scanner incorrectly because of these protocols. So many GENERIC scanners are NOT MB or Jeep friendly depending on the year and engine etc. common issue in the Dodge Sprinter community.)

How deep down the rabbit hole are you wanting to go? Just looking for a code reader, or are you needing bidirectional control? Need any programming?

I agree with the autel suggestion

Thanks mrjaw14, in short I want to bumping into Alice down there. Looking for all ECU connectivity and functionality.

Thanks Showkey, I'll definitely be looking at the Autel then.

And I use the OBD wiz scanner to diagnose and clear any CEL’s

Thanks John T, I've got an OBD reader already but need more functionality out of it to talk with the rest of the vehicle.

Can you get any of these;

Thanks Tony, cheers for the link I don't think I'd get any more coverage from those units though.

I have a sideline in fixing Jeeps on evenings and weekends for people and stupid thinks like clearing circuit protection codes in the TIPM can't be cleared to get headlights working again unless you've got the right kit and I don't fancy bending over to Fiat for that one.
