When we had the Jeep and the soft top, the doors were on the back porch, back bedroom, shop, shed, etc. Where ever. If it was a short run, I'd just throw them on the ground by the bushes on the side of the house.

i think quadratec.com has some storage ideas. I had a piece of carpet I would put under mine and they leaned on the garage wall....

So when you went out, you would remove the doors from your car, throw then in the bushes, then go and presumably put them back on when you get home?

Just curious as to what the point of doing that is? Wouldn't it be easier to just leave the doors on the vehicle?

Is this one of those hyper-miling strategies to gain MPG by reducing weight? I can't imagine the doors weigh that much though.

easy is rarely fun. Its a nice day, the top is off and the doors simply lift off. Jeeps are great for that!

If you buy a jeep you don't worry about mileage...

Yes! And right now the garage is in the process of being modified so I am looking for a method to store all 4 doors.

Leaning against wall is no good due to lack of space. My friend mounted hooks from ceiling but he had 8' ceilings and I have 10' (plus racks for hardtop, kayak and Thule).

I have seen mounts sold for walls but was wondering if someone had better homemade built solution....

Exactly. Jeep doors are for keeping critters out at night. Soft top door weight nothing almost and take up too much space in the back to drag around. Maybe they keep you dry (or just damp) in a big rain. Doors keep a little heat in the floorboard on a cold day. Maybe. The easiest deal for spring/summer/fall is neoprene seat covers and no doors ever.

An old CJ-7 like we had beat a convertible all to hell

Door hangers: You might consider looking at a pair of maybe 2" conduit clamps. You could squish those to a long/thin opening and space them on a wall so that the doors would hang in them then use a short bungee cord to keep the doors against the wall. Or try brackets to catch the door hooks made from "plumbers tape" - that soft metal strapping with muy holes in it. If they are hard doors, that's a challenge. And 4 of them - missed that part.

Jeeps take up so much space when you have them all apart! Currently my soft half doors are packed in a box, and my hard doors are all nice and rebuilt and repainted and living inside behind a curtain :D. Unfortunately I don't have a wall to hang them on, so I decided when I get the Jeep back together, I'll just keep the hard doors and hard top on, and install A/C for the summer. Still would be nice to have a good place to put the doors though. I was thinking of making some bags to store them in. Perhaps those big general purpose wall-mount utility hooks would be good if you had a wall.

JamieK - thanks. I had seen the last one but not the first two.

one - I like this set-up but no room
two - don't think I have wall space but I am going to measure
three is a possibility.

I just leave mine in the garage when they are off. I don't want them to walk off. I just make sure I stand them up solidly before I take off. Its a jeep after all so a few scratches arent a big deal.

Are the doors weatherproof? Could they be mounted to the outside of the garage? Or would it hurt them to get wet?

Personally, I really enjoy the rock crawling with the doors off......if the drive is not too far, I'll pull the hard doors and put on the soft doors...

As for storage solutions....the second pic seems to be the best.

If you have plenty of roof space....maybe consider making a bracket that would allow you to store them flat against the ceiling.

I got rid of my hard top years ago....it spent 9 months out of the year in the garage and in my way....I have the soft top for our short winter/rain season.

Try using a Door hinge bracket hanging from the ceiling (if the doors are not too heavy to lift up ladder) stored flat with catch holding handle side, or hanging straiht down if you have the height.
Wall mount single hinge bracket but keep the doors 90* to the wall, not pushed flat and maybe one mounted high and one low.that way it takes up only a foot or so of linear wall space but uses the full height. (again weight could be a factor.) Kinda like a book, spine to the wall or ceiling.
Or use hinge bracket and pulley system.
Enjoy the mud, water and bugs!

Mine usually just lean against the garage wall. I have thought about building something for them to slip into:
  • mount three 2x6's to the ceiling, about 30" deep, one end against the wall, and spaced about 30" apart (door width)
  • mount thick plywood to the bottom of the 2x6s
  • line the top (inside) of the plywood with something soft (carpet)
  • slide the 1/2 doors into the new "overhead door storage"

Mine are usually only off for the day, so I haven't bothered.

Yes....driving the Jeep on nice days with the top and doors off is defiantely one of the reasons I own a Jeep or 2....

Storage for my hard doorsa has always been a problem...no real room in the garage as all wal space is taken up....I lean them on the outside wall of the garage making sure the bottom is protected....next year we are extending the side fence up to the front of the garage...will put a roof (like a leanto) on it so we can easily park our bicycles in there....I may then mount my doors on the fence...off the ground at least

They should be somewhat weatherproof. But if you have full doors with roll up windows, the mechanism might get gummed up after a while. I do know they will get UV damage. I left my half doors outside for two or three summers and the inner panels are a nice chalky gray.

I have to agree with all the others. If your going to drive a jeep on a nice warm summer day. The only way to do it is with No roof & No doors !

It truly is a "Jeep Thing"
I presently don't own a jeep. my old one, a 1980 went to the boneyard many a year ago. I do have the priveledge of the use of a 05 Rubicon. Once warm weather hits. Off comes the doors and the hard top and thats the way it stays until cold weather returns.

I had the same problem when I first thought about taking the doors off my '08 4 door Wrangler - which is why I came up with the idea for the wall hangers. The response has been decent while I needed to change the design a couple of times. The latest design ( which isn't on the site yet....sorry...) allows the doors to be hung either painted side out or facing in - this was a popular request. The idea seems simple enough - yet there is quite a bit of work involved in making them...the distance between the hinges as well as the alignment is critical or both doors won't drop into the hangers without binding. I'm just a Canadian blue collar working stiff that has a great idea ( most think ) and put these things together in our back shop. I can literally take all 4 doors off and hang them up on the hangers in less than 5 minutes. I'm glad you've found the idea useful - and can promise these fully tig-welded hangers will suit your needs..........

I always wanted something like this when I had my Jeep. This one looks like it'll hold 4 doors. I would replace the casters with larger air filled so you could roll it across the grass into the back yard somewhere and then get a 'customized' tarp cover (small tarp and lots of bungees) for it.

What about the screw in hook hangers for bicycles? Mounted to the ceiling, The window frame should be able to hold them up, an if you have a 12" ceiling, you should be able to walk under them unobstructed.

As the die-hard Jeep owners have informed me first hand, unless you have the newer style Wrangler 2007-present where the window frame and outer door skin are one piece ( and quite strong ) the older Jeep doors if hung by the window frame opening will eventually start to break / fatigue the welds where the window frame meets the main door outer structure. They claim that the window frame wasn't engineered to handle the weight of the door, unlike the hinge.....so if you are thinking of making / buying a hanger for your doors, make sure the doors are hung by the hinges OR support the weight of the doors on the lower hem ( sit them down on something - as they are situated on the Jeep ) The other down side to hanging the doors through the window opening is that over time you destroy what can be an expensive window seal ( and you will ).......hope this helps!

Hi guys,

I went looking for a similar solution and never found anything I liked. Here's what I came up with to mount then individually, high on a garage wall where I had space.

Haven't solved the problem of getting the door to lay perfectly parallel to the wall. Opinions are mixed on whether or not this is even worth the effort. Thoughts?

take a look around at lowes/ home depot in the storage/ shelving area. i found some large "J" hooks that mount to the wall with a couple screws. i hand my buddy's hard doors on them to keep them out of the way
