I searched and found only one thread where this brand is referenced, and in that thread it seems to be a USA company, maybe one that Asia copied from.

http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69180&highlight=jefferson+vise

I ask about this company because of this ad that I just read:

5 inch vise very heavy
I have been carrying this thing around for the past 20 to 30 years
never use this one .
I am not sure of the manufacturer
There is a tag on it I can make out what I think is Jefferson tool ? But
i am uncertain
It weights between 65 to 75 Lbs
it has a anvil on the back
knurled Jaws

Any info?

Bull - I have never heard of Jefferson in relation to building a vise. That doesn't mean anything since I live in The Outlands. If you could toss up a photo of the mystery vise then we could offer more opinions and call each other names. Wait...that's what we do at work.

Bull, I tried a quick Bing search and all I could find were people talking about Thomas Jefferson when he was the "Vise President". :wtf:

Well, another forum I'm on has "Nancy the grinder queen"

Do we have a "Vise" President here on this forum I wonder??

At this point its pretty much established on Garage Journal, that that style of vise is an Asian import. There are a number of names those vises were sold under, and a few different styles, especially nowadays, but almost all current ones, and most older ones are/were Asian imports.

The original vise of that style was made in the USA and was patented in 1921. They originals usually were branded Nutyp and Sawyer. One or two of the originals have shown up in past threads on GJ. The First Jefferson Tool version of that vise is the older Asian version that seems to have been more closely modeled on the original Nutyp version. Some people who have owned the older Asian version have gotten good use out of them, and they may have been made with heavier castings than some of the current versions.
