Jegs parts washer and Summit Degreaser problems

I put Summit parts washer degreaser in my parts washer about a year ago. I had not used it for awhile (about 4 months) so it has just been sitting in there during this time. I went to use it today and found a mess. The solution formed crystals (like wet laundry soap powder) everywhere the solution was and got under the powder coating on the tank. So much so, the powder coat came off in sheets and the crystals plugged the pump.
Has anyone had this type of problem?
Do you leave the solution in the tank without using it?

I now need to get the solution out and coat the inside of the tank with something before I have a rust bucket.

I take it this is water based solvent ? If so it does not like to be stored unused for long periods in my opinion. Its just strong soapy water.

If you are only going to be using it once every four months I really think you will be much better off with a traditional petroleum based solvent.

I have a heated water based Safety Kleen washer at the shop and sometimes I will soak parts in a small bucket of the soap over the weekend. It does the same thing as you are seeing. My machine has a plastic barrel that the stainless "sink" sits on so it isnt a problem. Plus mine gets used almost constantly and the heat stays on.

It is a water based solution.
The washer is from Jegs and sure it china made. Using mineral spirits or kerosene , does that take a special pump? The pump I have looks one you use in a fish tank.

I use and recommend TSC PCS 1000. It's a real solvent and I have had the same fluid in mine for at least 7 years with zero problems. No spell, no evaporation, tank looks brand new. I use gauntlet style gloves but the solvent is very mild and mainly dries your skin out.

TSC PCS 1000

Has gone up and is $45 for 5 gallons. I used two containers to fill my HF solvent tank. Works like a dream!

And your correct that the pumps in these things are just pond pumps but mine has been working for 7 years without fail and sit's 24/7 in solvent. I was planning on replacing it with a little Giant pump that is solvent rated but it just keeps working so I gave up on that idea.

I don't like powder coating because if one scratch on it, it will start peeling. I prefer paint which can be touched up if it gets scratched.

I will definitely look into that stuff. My washer is a 40 gal (23 gal solvent) so to keep costs down, I may need to have a smaller tank to pull from. Do you need to soak your parts first or is the solvent strong enough to remove gunk without soaking.

What type of paint do you use or prefer?
