I have a Emglo portable unit that is powered by a Honda 8hp engine and uses a 2 stage GTU 4 cyl. pump. About 5 years ago I picked it up from a duct cleaning company (apparently they are popular in that business) that had bought out a competitor and this unit came from that acquisition. With that background it certainly had been run hard, long and put away wet but it still runs great. At some point I will rebuild both the engine and pump but parts for both are readily available. The pump is very well built and very durable. The photos show how it came to me after a quick wipe down, for $350 I could not complain.

The Honda starts on the first or second pull all year round. Once I timed how long it takes to build pressure to compare it to my 3hp (240V) 30 gal electric compressor, which now gets very little use. From 0 to 100 psi takes about 20 seconds, 0 to 175 psi takes about 45 seconds. This is skewed by the small tank capacity of only 8 gallons but if I just need to pump up a tire it is so fast that I never bother with my electric compressor. The unit is rated for about 15.5 cfm @ 100 psi and 15.1 @ 175 psi, it runs my blast cabinet just fine. The Emglo/Jenny two stage V4 pumps operate by using cylinders 1,2 and 3 as the first stage which then fills cylinder #4 as the second stage which then goes to the tank. The single stage versions use all 4 cylinders to feed the tank directly.

In all I am very happy with it and in my case the portability has allowed me to get air to places that the hose would never reach.

Do you have figured out ballpark what amount of CFM you need for your current and likely future needs ?

As for your question, anything "Jenny" has been very good quality.

I took a hotdog compressor and built this 30 gal. It runs everything I throw at it. Hvlp, sandblaster and air tools. Never runs out and I can run it with the pilot valve to keep it from cycling so much. 15cfm isn't bad in a small package.

I have a Jenny purchased it in 2012. I looked and researched all the common up right models like Ingersol and Bend pak's version. I have had several different compressors over the years cause I knew a guy that was in the oil and gas business and serviced and sold shop equipment in the late 70's .

Out of all the compressors Jenny was the only one that looked like it was well machined and is made in the USA local here in Pa . The factory is not far from my house and has been in the compressor business forever outsourcing only a few parts. The paint and finish on the tank and the compressor is nice and the noise level is lot less than other compressors in the same class.

If you want some pics just let me know. price wise I know it was a few $100.00 more but was worth it quality wise.

I don't need much, Ill use it for tires, blow guns, palm sander and nail/brad guns, but want overpowers need most times with me. I have my heart set on a bead blaster some day so I will need some cfm's. I do not want a super loud compressor so I have been researching US made stuff with good reviews. I see so many machines that are single phase today and running at 65db's which my neighbors will appreciate. I have considered a scroll for this reason I just have to draw the line somewhere or I will be buying way more than I will ever use.

I saw some great video testimonials on this MFG so I thought I'd ask about them.

Thanks Mac, this is what I have been reading much like you have outlined.

I too have been eyeing a Jenny. I love the fact it is made here and it's a small? not widely known brand (in consumer circles). (ie hasn't been bought out by a conglomerate and raped and had it's name whored out while they slashed quality.) Specifically the 115V K2A-30. I have an old Craftsman oil-less and it is loud as hell, and I want to replace.

My only question is that the Craftsman is a 160 psi 26 gal with 4.9 com at 90psi, and the Jenny is 8 cfm at 125 psi. I don't know if that's max psi on that unit or not but, I'm wondering how they get that psi out of 125 psi.

Does anyone recommend spending almost twice that of a Belair or Quincy for something similar? I'm not above something from NT or HF if there is no discernible increase in quality or reliability. But I also like having a nice unique shop piece and supporting domestic business when I can.

The K2A-30 is rated 8.4 cfm @ 100 psi and 8.0 cfm @ 125 psi. That is a good performance for a 2 hp/115V unit. The K pump has proven to be a stout 2-3 hp rated pump. 125 psi is where it's most likely the cut off solenoid switch is set from the factory. The cfm goes down as the psi goes up due to the pump's efficiency declining. Your Craftsman oil-less probably puts out 0.5 cfm @ 160 psi and produces 130 decibels while doing so. There is absolutely no comparison between the two units.

BTW, there is a "bought out by a conglomerate" story for Jenny. IIRC, Jenny was the supplier that manufactured the pumps for Emglo who was bought out by a consumer grade tool company who in turn kept the hot dog compressor products and sold the commercial/industrial line to Jenny.
