Jet Belt/Disc Sander vs what?

I have a Craftsman table top style thats junk,a pain to use,I want some thing thats has a good stable plate on the belt and disc side, the Craftsman one moves all the time and want stay SQ to the sandpaper,
This is the newer version of what i got

The Jet one seems pretty nice but alittle pricey at $676.00,

The Enco looks alittle on the cheaper side, and the ledge on the belt side is the same as the Craftsman. I assume its a china one also.

Every once in awhile an old Craftsman or Delta 6" belt/9" disc shows up on CL. Jump on it !

The problem is you have the smaller bench top Cman unit. They have some older larger ones that are way better. I got mine for $50 and it works great.
They are worth $100 to $175 pending condition and they come available here and there.
The older delta, Rockwell, powermatic units are also great and worth popping $200 to $300 for one in good shape

look around on C/L for an older 6x48 W/12 disk i picked one up for $200 put a new 2hp C/L baldor motor on it fresh paint, wire, power switch, belt and disk got around $350 in it get the 12 disk you will never look back

Consider what you want to use it for. Do you really need a wide belt? A wide belt is handy for woodworking, but if you mainly want to grind metals or plastic you should consider a 2x48 sander with or w/o a disc.

I had a Rockwell/Delta 6x48, then a 6x48 w/12" disc, and recently I sold them off---I found I use my 2x48 and 1x42 grinders much more often. If I was to add another grinder it would be a large disc---no wide belt.

That said, for woodworking it is hard to beat a Rockwell/Delta 6x48. Get at least 1HP, while 2 hp would not be overkill. I see them all the time for $200-300 (used of course).
