Hello

I have a JET brand 1/2" drive socket set and I bought it at a home show about 6 years ago and it has served me well the look and feel tells me its a good brand.

I'm not professional mechanic so I don't run in the circles some of you guys do so not familiar with what is good and not good in a tool brand but like a lot of you, I can tell the **** from the decent stuff.

I was just curious about this JET brand I have, I like it and it seems durable.

Is it a good brand, does JET make it or is it a branded by another manufacturer.

cheers

Glen

They're pretty popular in Canada, mainly as industrial tools. They have quite a few distributors, and I see alot of them used by maintenance departments and millwrighting contractors. I couldn't tell you who actually makes them, but I'm betting Taiwan. If you can't afford Gray, Jet is a good option!

Thanks. The quality of the set is definitely better compared to my Stanley, craftsman and mastercraft sets I have.

cheers!

It's a good brand, I like their bandsaw.

You're in the US, so I'm betting you're talking about the "other" Jet brand, not the Canadian Jet brand.

The Jet in the US is a machine tool importer formerly owned by Walter Meier AG (Switzerland). Jet is now owned by Tenex Capital Management (New York City, USA) and is a part of JPW Industries, Inc. They don't sell hand tools.

The Jet in Canada is Jet Group, Ltd. a Canadian-owned company headquartered in British Columbia. They sell a few machine tools and power tools, including a horizontal band saw, but their primary focus is hand tools.

Two completely separate companies.

WWII: i think OP lives in Canada (Ontario). we have a lot of Jet tools here in the Pacific Northwest and they used to be one of the top brands in the 70's. they still are a good brand and they make a ton of woodworking tools.

I didn't know there were 2 companies with the same name, but maybe that is because the Canadian one is under different patent laws. good to know

Yes the OP is Canadian. I was mainly responding to gus1962 from Canton, OH.

I didn't realize there were two either. I just knew the US company doesn't offer hand tools.

I have a JET brand 1 1/16" combo wrench in a toolbox somewhere. I got it in the late '90's, though I don't remember how or where. It's made in Japan, has a BF forge mark on it (I think, maybe... possibly? I'll dig it out tonight and double-check). Cool to know it's from a Canadian company, I just assumed it was some side effect of the Jet power tool company's outsourcing of everything.
