I bought the Williams JHWB-52EHA 3/8" and am a little dissapoint how stiff the direction switch is. The selector is very short but also super stiff.

Is this a know thing for these or is possible I need to lube or break it in? Can I change the short selector for a longer one?

It just takes use to break in and smooth out. Adding extra lube will slow this process. They are crazy smooth once worn in.

Best practice is to find a socket that can be chucked into a drill (like a hex bit socket) and spin in each direction to simulate a LOT of use.

I thought of doing that but my main issue is with the selector and I don't know if wear will occur from spinning the main gear. I disassembled and polished where the selector goes over the ball bearing with not much luck. Would still prefer a longer switch, certainly room for it.
