yes, it is the # 3 pictured, those are just old pics that i had taken when i first got them and where still on my computer @ work, haven't gotten around to take a pic of the now used # 2.
i'm no idiot, i don't use the # 3 where a # 2 goes...

i do indeed have a problem with the #2 tip though, the tip profile seems much steeper if that makes any sense when i compare it to the Wera's, Kleins, Westwards, Stanleys and P&R that i have in my box and use all the time. The #3 tip is perfect as is the #1 and the flat blades are among the best i've ever laid my hands on. i might try filing it down a shade to make the profile of the others to see it that helps.

It has been mentioned a few times here that williams have had bad phillips heads. Mine is fine call williams.

Glad I orderd my 8pc earlier before i went out there were 2 in stock then:bounce: But i would have rather had the two sets of 6.

Can anybody who allready has a set tell me if they come packaged in a tray like the so hard handles? Now I need to find a line on a phillips and slotted stubby:headscrat

When I got mine they came in a clear PVC bag. Tray would have been nice.

The #2 Phillips ***** donkey balls on mine. Possibly the worst fitting #2 I've ever owned.

BTW, with exception of the ACR tipped shanks, the shank wings have the "S" stamped onto them--that's proof that SO uses the same shanks.

I didn't see a slotted stubby in the catalog. Maybe have to fill in with a Snap On? :headscrat

My Williams set is great, the tips are fine and very high quality. Have you called customer service? I am curious how they handle this.

I will contact them this wk and see what they say.

But, if they are closing this style out, I may just send them all back. If I wear one out next yr and need a replacement, what I am going to get, a blue handle chinese one?

As I said in my other thread, I just ordered some Wihas and will see what they look like. Hopefully the germans can grind a phillips tip at least as good as they can in Taiwan :).

I got my sets (12 pcs total) and really like them, except the phillips head problem. I even got a really big square shaft slotted that I really like.

Has anyone talked to Williams about poor #2 fit? All 3 of my #2's have gaps at the edges when fully inserted into a screw head.

Everyone says "talk to customer service" or "I contacted customer service" but hasn't said what the response is, unless I missed it. Do they send new blades, new screwdrivers, make you send them back, pretend it's not a problem, or what? I'm being lazy and hoping to know what to expect when I contact them. When I contact them, I'll let you know how it goes, OK?

so after seeing all the #2 WTH comments, i notice that mine seems to have a raised tip right at the point of the blade that none of my other phillip (the other williams and different brands) seem to have. i may grind it off when i get a chance and see how it fits

I did some Williams #2 fitment tests and observed the same thing. The taper of the screwdriver bit seems too gradual to make perfect contact with the screw. When the screwdriver tip is bottomed you can rock it maybe 5-10 degrees on all 4 sides.

However I observed the exact same thing with a Snap On #2 screwdriver!!

Then I tried some other screwdrivers. Here what I observed from best to worst:

PB Swiss - Best fit of all of them (no rocking)
Klein - Almost as good as PB Swiss
Sears Craftsman - Not the best, not the worst
Snap On/Williams - Sloppiest fit at the head of the screw

I'm not sure what to make of this. Does Snap On manufacture these with a more gradual taper for a reason??

Are their industry standards and tolerances when it comes the Phillips dimensions?

I have always said my Snap-On #2 Phillips are the best. I found the other day a lot depends on the screw as well. I ran into some screws the other day where a Harbor Freight Pittsburg pro dominated my Snap-Ons. On automotive screws the Snap-On dominates. You would think a Phillips is a Phillips. It's as much the screw as the driver thats in it

I was thinking the same thing, im sure the tolerence the screw makers use is no where near as good as the driver manufacturers. I went through my bins and some fit better than others sheet metal screws rocked a little like said above but wood screws fit perfect.

I think the tolerance on automotive screws are better. They had to be installed using either robotics or a power driver. Using a questionable quality screw could hold up an assembley line. You buy a handful of woodscrews from Lowes it's a crapshoot.

I was wondering if automotive screws also had a slightly longer taper and that's why SO/Williams tips were a little different.

I've always despised Phillips fasteners!! It's so easy to mangle the head and damage your screwdriver.

....hence the reason why it just makes sense to have an assortment of phillips, and to a lesser degree, flat head screwdrivers to choose from. You have no idea what standard the screw manufacturer is producing for. Furthermore, standards have changed over the decades, adding to the variance. A lot variables come into play.

I'm sure it's been talked about already but how is the warranty with these?? Will snap on guys warranty these since they are the industrial snap on brand?

Not all #2 screwheads are the same too, lots of variation. I think grinding the points down on all phillips drivers is not a bad idea though.

I ordered the 8 pc set a good while back then filled in the blanks as needed. I didn't know if I'd like the different size handles at first, but for garage and mechanical work they are great. I just wish JHW made dedicated electrical screwdrivers with same size handles across all tips/lengths though.

On the back of the williams, there is a number: SDP-2-4, as well as the typical warning not to use as a prybar, chisel, or punch.

I've done that... felt really bad about it... not.
