Jigsaw??

A fellas another question for u pros out there. U guys know everything. I am going to use thin gauge metal for my interior panels on my chevy and was wondering the right tool to use to cut it? I was thinking a jigsaw? Wanted to see what u recommend? Thanks for all of your guys help.

Air shears (or snips if your really good with them) would probably work better, or a large throat band-saw if you have one.

The problem with a jigsaw and really thin material is the vibration caused may make you miss cut it... that and the edges will be jagged.

If you decide to use a jigsaw because you don't want to buy new tools, then back your metal to a thin sheet of plywood before cutting, that will help. And get a fine tooth blade for your saw, remembering that 2-3 teeth should be engaged in the work at any time. But, a jigsaw is not the ideal tool here, it is merely the expedient one.

with the finest blade you can get, using the saw at a low speed and not pushing it to hard you'll be fine. id think about rubber cementing the metal to some heavy cardboard or luan or something else to make cutting a little easier, then you can peel it off. when your done just file/sand the edges

now if you want, id say if you can get yourself a little electric nibbler or hand shear.
