Thanks matt_i, I designed the building and a local truss manufacturer designed the trusses, I wanted to keep the roof no higher than the house, but have max headroom inside (for the lift), so from the pic above I have 14' at the highest point. As for the doors, I can use high rise to follow the roof line (it slopes at the door entrances). I have been discussing options with Wayne-Dalton.

Thanks USAF_POL, it was drawn by a local engineering company, really it is just a 32x33 box with a bathroom and moved in 5x17 for the pool bar, the drop trusses were designed by a local truss company to give me the highest inside roof to support my lift 12-14 feet, but not have a higher roof line that the house. I did put the floorplan in microsoft visio

I am doing the electrical myself to save some money to put towards the lift. I pulled the string thru the conduit, to measure the length of cable. Tied a Walmart bag to the string and pulled it thru with my rigid shopvac, worked like a champ, added a little extra, but looks like about 140'. Will pick up cable on Monday.

From the outside it looks nice but ordinary and not likely to attract the interest of your HOA. But I gotta tell you the inside ceiling is inspired. A really classy out of the box solution to lift clearance. Very cool. Very cool indeed.

Thanks Bib Overalls I did have to have it approved by the HOA, funny thing there is no height requirement, I just didn't want it to look like an airplane hangar by the house. I did have to get a letter from them for the 5' off the fence/property line, which is the county specs.

Can I ask a silly question? Is every thing built on a slab? With all that sand how deep would you have to dig the footings for a foundation? How in the world do you get any kind of lawn to grow down there? I'm just curious. It looks like a great building. Congrats.

Shop is looking great.

I have a similar roof as you down here in Orlando. My shop is 32x32 Not trusses but traditionally framed. Not sure what you are doing for ceiling and lights but I have a glosss white ceiling.....then I ran 6 tube led fixtures high up on the slanted ceiling around the perimeter. For me worked out great.

Just on a huge scale. The White gloss ceiling acts like a great reflector.

I picked up the tubes and fixtures from City Electric Supply. They are a distributer for Fusion LED bulbs which are manufactured right here in Florida in Port St Lucie. http://www.fusion-lamps.com/product.php?cid=81&pid=145&cname=LINEAR LED

Layout could work with Recessed as well if you are going that route.

Looks like a monolithic slab to me. We built a 24x24 in Michigan a few years ago, similar sandy soil type and much much colder climate. No problems so far.


I really like this build. If I ever had to move to Florida I could see coming home to relax in a place like yours is shaping up to be. Nice work and great plan.

Hi 2cruz, first as a old instructor 'no such thing as a silly question', when i built the pool i ask the same thing, we recently moved here from central alabama where you could spend a whole afternoon digging a ditch, where here i can go 50' in no time, the pool guy said we do gunite right on the beach, so far so good. The slab is the same as the house, probably 5-1/2 to to 6" and about 10" where the lift will be. Thanks for viewing!

Hi davetulk, thanks for the info, i have not gotten to interior lighting yet. My plan was to do 16' or more of pallet rack on the long wall by the doors, but i failed to consider the amount of space a 2x6 takes up!! Fortunately got a call today from a guy on craigs list that has some 36", 8x8 racking, that i think will do nicely!! Do you have a overhead view of your lighting? Brick will start Thursday or Friday, and thanks to gj, scored a nice 60" milwaukee bench that is being delivered this afternoon!!

You can see how I ran the lights....keep in mind I have 12' walls. When I take a pic of the lights straight on it darkens out. The shot of the workbench shows the light level a bit better.
