Jinxed house?

The house next to ours has seen 7-8 different households living there sine it was built back in '68. Aside from the first owners and fourth owners, the couples have tended to become divorced after residing there. Granted this falls into a near 2/3'rds divorce ratio but it is puzzling how this one house on the street manages to turn over in relationship problems. None of the other homeowners are divorcing.

The fourth owners were Chinese with strong beliefs in Feng Shui but they bought the house anyway. They felt that the house had bad energy flow so even though they made changes, they did not feel comfortable to live there. They bought another house and rented this one out. They rented it to 3 families and each of them resulted in a divorce within their rental term. They sold it to the current couple who seem to go at each other every 2-3 days.

Do you think a house can be jinxed/have bad energy to result in these problems?

Had some crazy neighbors for years, when I was growing up. They finally got into it in the street one afternoon, with .38 snub nosed revolvers. Something like 35 rounds fired between the two of them, with nothing hit anywhere on the street other than a tree and one trash can. Both arrested, and the funniest part about it, was they shared a cab home from the arraignment hearings because neither had enough cash to get their own cab.

My aunt and uncle live on a country side road named for the family that used to own all the land around that area. When I mentioned where they lived to a friend from the area, he said "oh, on divorce road?" Apparently their house (and the others on the road) were all built by various members of the family, then sold after the coupes broke up. My relatives have been there 20 some odd years now and still aren't totally sick of each other, so maybe they've beaten the curse!

Absolutely! We have a house on the property with a similar history,in fact two of the husbands were committed to mental institutions and one unfortunate wife not connected the first two actually set her self on fire and it definitely wasn’t a accident.

Some homes are depressing to live in. The second place my wife and I bought was dark, the sun didn't really come in (due to neighboring structures, crappy additions, etc). Plus it needed so much work, and it just wasn't worth fixing up due to the neighborhood. But it was all we could afford. So we just lived in it, felt crappy about it, never had company over, never worked on it unless something broke, etc. It was a depressing time. I could see a house like that contributing to divorce.

Notice I said "contribute", not cause. It wasn't full of divorce-hungry ghosts or anything, it was just plain ol' depressing. And when you're both depressed all the time, it's gonna cause problems.

I can understand a dark home and how it contributes to the mood. Whatever that takes place in this house is a factor of the people and their overall relationship. Just seems really odd that it is consistent.

8 or 9 years on average doesn’t seem that short. 1 or 2 years would be an eye opener for sure.

I'll never forget this one home in the Mt. Washington area of So Cal. We were looking to buy our first home. As soon as Mrs. Plombob and I walked through the door we turned to each other and said in unison "What happened here?" It was a creepy house and the strangest thing was, the foyer was darker than it should have been with all the windows and lights.

I totally get what you mean... when I was looking for my first house, I toured a place that was just off-putting in a way I can't quite describe. I think part of it was because the house was built on an oddly shaped corner lot and had a strange layout. On top of that, the previous owner was a university professor who had lived there alone for something like 40 years. With the exception of the bathrooms and kitchen, he had lined every single interior wall with homemade 1x8 pine board bookshelves, even in front of the windows. Now, I can look past cosmetics, and pulling the shelves out would not have been that big of a deal, but I could just not get past the vibe the house was giving me.

Agreed, some floor plans can be turn-off's. Has me me wondering how the designer can have such an odd layout using space.

The floor plan of this 2 story home is fairly nice. It has two master bedrooms and 3 decently sized other BR along with 3BA and separate dining area. This plan has the most spacious kitchen area of the other 5 floor plans that were built in this tract. Pool sized yard for these versions. It was the second largest in sqft lacking to the most $ one that came with a bonus room area.
