Is the D10 going thru a certified rebuild? It sure looks awfully shiny to have many hours on it, and the way it is disassembled leaves me puzzled as to what is being done to it. Other than the paint being off the tracks, it looks to be new.

Halliburton has frac units with 3512's on them, and ENI had 3516 gensets on most of their production platforms for standby power, when I was working offshore West Africa.
Years ago, Santa Fe did a changeout of the 4 D398 (D399?) gensets on a rig after one puked, and replaced them with 4 3512s, the footprints were the same, so it wasn't as involved a project as you would have thought.

It was in for a paint job. That's it. I think there might have been a few minor repairs done on it, but not much. It is disassembled like that for shipping purposes. We had another in after that that was going out on a 50 ton lowboy. It was going out of state so we had to take the tracks off and ripper off, on top of the ROPS, cab, stiff arms and blade which were off when we got it.

I did not even consider that. It is kind of hard to judge its size without the EROPS. I have only been around a couple of D10s, and have only seen one D11, at the dealer in Alexandria, Egypt.

What shop do you work in, or component do you specialize in?

I work in the main shop which is basically everything. We don't really specialize, although I like electrical. Right now I mainly take care of our rental equiment, rebuild cylinders, and do whatever work we can get in the door. Until I get more experience and build up a trust with my shop foreman, I will probably do most of the basic stuff. I just graduated in May so I have only been working on my own for a couple of months.

ZRX61 nice Mustang, Do you know any of the guys up at Minter Field in Shafter, CA. My mom works there and has for 19 years. Lots of love for the Warbirds and those that restore them and race them.

There is no sound better then a Warbird flying over head at low altitude now 5 or 6 at one time is even better. Man I miss the Warbird Air Show there.

What I used to do before the money and work slowed. Trying to get back on with a different employer. Just waiting for the background check and whizQuiz results.

It has a REAL big winch in the back. OK not as big as the rigs but it is mobile.

I don't think it can exert that much line pull. I don't know the strength of the electric wireline, but the rope socket on top of the tool string would be the weak point.
Of course, you don't have 1 1/2" wire rope like the drawworks, and depending on how many lines he has strung, he might be able to pull close to, or over a million lbs, but everything would be limited by the connections in the drill string.

What make is the logging truck, Schlumberger doesn't hesitate to use some foreign make, do they?

Small world. I work in Aurora for LWL.

edit - just notice this -

We don't really specialize, although I like electrical.

More specifically, I do electrical design for LWL :) Feel free to PM if you ever wish to chat. I always like getting feedback from the field.

I'm not sure what open hole cable heads are capable of, but on our single conductor 5/16" cable, pullout will be just over 4300 pounds with 12 strands tied. That is the pullout strength at the cable head, the weight seen at surface would be 4300 plus line weight.

Those Schlum trucks look like something aweful and remind me of garbage trucks every time I see them.

The cable itself is rated for almost 20k# of pull, so no not even close to the draworks on a rig. We would use a working load of about half of that, depending on the toolstring. The 'head' is equipped with a replaceable "weakpoint" that is designed to break long before the cable. When we get stuck and can't get it unstuck the cable is generally cut and threaded through the drill pipe. The cable we had on that drum is a .46 so it is just shy of 1/2". The rope socket is 'rebuilt' monthly or when the pull exceeds 3/4 of the rated line working load. The weakpoint is also replaced in this manner.

That is a Foden with some Kenworth badges on the doors. They came through the panama canal judging by the stickers on the windows when it was new. It is equipped with a cat engine but man is it under powered. Plenty to run the logging job but it won't get out of its own way.

The Kenworth Badges explain it, Paccar Group truck. First time i've seen a Foden living outside the UK. :)
