Been lurking here for a while and am finally ready to get the garage back into working shape. This garage was built in 1947 and is detached from my mouse, built in 1900. My wife and I have completely redone the house over the last few years and during that time the garage became a catch all and a total disaster. Thought I would document my make over and implement some of the good ideas I’ve found on the forum. This will be a fairly low buck make over. I hung the Dayton electric heater years ago when I first got the place, it works well. The garage door openers are new and I have cleaned it out enough that the wife can park her Jeep inside. Next step is to build a garden shed so I can clear out all the lawn care stuff and free up some work space. The worst thing about it is the condition of the floor. Not real sure what I’m going to do. Busting up and redoing are not in the budget. So if anyone has any ideas I’m all ears. I’m thinking grind down the high spots and do a race deck type floor. One of the big motivations for finally getting this project started is it is time to put the 5.7L Hemi in the 1972 Plymouth Fury wagon.

Cool garage and house. I like the roof on your house as well as the back porches.

What part of the country do you live in?

I think you have a great starting point as it looks like you have a 2 1/2 car garage. Does your man door face the street, it's hard to tell. I guess my only comment would be that I believe the concrete in the garage and driveway would drive me crazy at a certain point. I think to begin I would build or buy some storage solutions for the back wall. I look forward to seeing your progress.

FJ. I'm in north east Indiana. The man door faces the street, it is to the left in the first picture. The condtion of the concrete is a big issue but with quotes over $10k to do anything about it, it is just not going to happen right now, or anytime real soon.

I love it all. The house, garage, and the station wagon. It is so pleasing to see things like that, and are well cared for and can be redone. Forget expensive things. New things you buy today are mostly **** anyway, too much electronics in all of it. I commend you for wanting to do something with your garage!! Re-doing things is what matters. You have a good set of everything in my opinion. Great!!

Thanks HS. I like the character of older homes, and even though we have redone every square inch of it, we have done it in keeping with character the house. Stamped tin ceiling in the sunroom, white subway tile in the kitchen and bath with a simple black boarder, crown molding and classic trim work, etc. But has had modern electrical, HVAC, windows doors, etc, done. Redoing the house wasn’t just for our own enjoyment but was done with the thought that a whole other generation might get to experience living in a well-cared for turn of the century home. As for the garage, I’m just looking for a nice functional space. I admire a lot of the very nice garages here on the journal but am looking to do something a bit more modest.

….and just when you think you have a plan. In an odd turn of events this project has stopped as fast as it started. A house my wife and I have always admired went on the market, so we listed ours to see what would happen. Our home sold in three days. So not going to be redoing this garage but now the real fun begins. We get to build a new shop for me at the new place. Time to start researching steal? Pole? Stick built? I guess I’ll start a new thread for all that….

Yup. A couple of hours of organizing, and your garage would be perfect in my book.
