Finally here are some pictures of my garage. I'm not one of those that documented my progress on the project, sorry. However here is the mostly finished project. It's a 24x36 building with 24x24 garage area and 12 x24 shop on the back end. I have a bar area, machine shop, and garage! Everything I need, except a bathroom.http://www.joedunnarts.com/garage

Wow, amazing garage, love all the details throughout the garage plus your own in house Bridgeport! Very clever idea with the clear side garage door and patio, kinda brings both areas together when entertaining. Love all the old school wheels on display!

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Guys! I'm a machinist and artist. Glad to finally get my little home shop up and running. I have the Logan 14" lathe, and the Bridgeport mill both of which got rewired with Hitachi VFD's to run on 220V single phase power. That's the only way to power machines off 220V single phase power at home, IMHO. The side door out to the patio was the wife's idea! And a really good one too. The garage was built to have home for the cars, and a small machine shop.

Love your new gas pump, Sunbimmer! It's awesome! And, your garage is looking great too! Really like the motif you are building into your garage.

This is a beautiful garage. I espeically like the machine shop area. The vehicles are extremely nice as well. It clearly shows you have put much thought and work into your place and I am sure your very happy with the results. I like the glass garage door very much giving light and beauty from the outside. This is a great job and I compliment you highly on your work. Your talents are very evident.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Holy heck that is one sweet space. Love the break with the sliding doors between the two spaces. HUGE fan of the cobra as well.

Thanks Herb and dubber for the kind words. Herb your place is around the same size as mine, looks great! Yes, I'm excited about how it's turning out. I did most of the work inside myself. And dubber, the sliding barn doors I built also, including the hardware! They let me work in the machine shop closed off from the garage. The Cobra is a beast! It's a Factory Five replica with a 427CI that makes about 550HP. It was built from all new parts. Crate motor, Tremec 5-speed, etc. The Mustang is a 1965 GT coupe. 289CI with a 5-speed.

zkling, the couch is on wheels so I can roll it out into the garage area during serious machine shop work. Thanks for the compliment on the Cobra!

I forgot to comment on the Bandsaw and Drill Press. Those items are just "cherry".
In fact, I almost bought a similar drill press today at an estate sale. It was a hurry up situation and I did not like the feel of spindle movement, so I passed on it. I love rebuilding things like that but sometimes I hate chasing the parts!

Best Regards
Herb

Herb, the drill presses are easy rebuilds. Usually they take standard bearings that are readily available. I rebuilt mine with new bearings and a repaint. I showed it to a friend recently, and he commented that you can hardly hear it run. A lot of the new drill presses rattle, shake, and walk all over the room. I also pinstriped it! The Little Delta bandsaw is a wood working saw. It was in great condition when I got it. I need to put a VFD on it so I slow it down to be able to cut metal. Another project...

Thanks for the closeups of the drill press. I bet that is smooth as silk! Love the finish and the red knobs on the handle of the spindle. As I said earlier it is Cherry".

Best Regards and Thanks for Showing It.

We broke ground on the foundation in Feb. of 2014. My contractor told me it would take 6-8 wks. to finish the building. They lied... We got our final inspection in Nov. of 2014. At that point I had a completed building that was finished (sheetrock and painted) inside and painted on the outside. Originally I was going to use a mini-split a/c, heat unit and use the sliding barn doors to be able to just heat or cool just the shop area. After pricing that I found It was cheaper to get central air and heat. Got that installed in Dec. Then it was up to me to start my improvements. It has taken me until now to get it to the point where you see it today. I did the epoxy floor, sliding barn doors, lighting, surround sound, cabinets (repurposed) from my wife's Dad's house, and moving in and setting up the equipment. Sorry for the long winded answer... BTW, my wife wants an S7.

Rick your garage and website is amazing. I worked my first job in a body shop as a clean-up guy. It started my love for auto detailing. Most people do not even know what that means. Detailing goes so far beyond washing your car, it's not funny. There are so many aspects to detailing - Paint, carpets, upholstery, plexi-polishing, etc. I will most certainly start reading your blog! Kudos my friend!

I think she should get what she wants! Central air and heat in the garage wasn't even a consideration when we built our house, but it makes perfect sense in retrospect. I will have to take more time to pursue the photos you posted, there is so much to take in!

Ok, I'm going to add some pics of cars the garage was built for.. "Norma Jean" is a 1931 Ford coupe. She is named after my wife's mother. She is all original, down to the flathead (40 HP) 4 cylinder. She is a rumble seat in the back. She's two-tone copra drab/chicle drab. It's quoted that only Henry Ford could make drab look good...

The Cobra.
The Cobra is a Factory Five replica with a 427. My Cobra was built from all new parts. Factory Five deluxe kit, 427 crate motor, and Tremec 600 series 5-speed. She is a blast to drive. Just make sure you have it pointed in the direction you want to go when you punch it!

The GT
The Mustang is a 1965 GT coupe. She is a first year GT mustang. Ford started building GT mustangs in April of 1965, my Mustang was built in June 65'. She has all of the equipment that GT's come with including front disc brakes, driving lights, 289ci V-8, stiffer suspension, dual exhaust that exits through the valance, close ratio steering box, and five guage dash cluster. Mostly original except for the transmission has bee swapped out to a Tremec five speed. Great driving little car!
