I've got a 255xl rider with a Kohler 15 horse motor. I am attempting to pull the flywheel to replace the stator. I've broken 2 cheep pullers, bought a better one and still can't get the flywheel to budge. I've snaped 2 puller bolts, 1 grade 5 and a grade 8 . I have been spraying penetrant on the shaft for 3 days, today I heated the area and melted wax down the shaft. Any other ideas?

pry bar under. Put the nut on a few threads. hit the shaft with nut on with good size hammer while pulling up on the pry bar. You can use heat with this method.

Prybar / Crowbar. Put the nut back on so it’s about a 1/4” from the flywheel. Have to use a big hammer like 3# or more. Push down on the prybar and one swift whack and it should pop off. If you use a small hammer all you do is end up beating the end of the crankshaft and ruining the threads.

I finally got back to the mower repair on sat. I used the puller, heat, then took 2 cold chisels under the flywheel to get it to come off. Replaced the stator, checked the output and got nothing. Started checking everything over and found the center line off the regulator was broken. At least the motor got a good cleaning. And it puts out 14.6 volts.
