Anybody here have any experience with newer John Deere tools.

If so what are your thoughts.

I personally have a metric half inch drive socket set, 14 piece standard wrench set, and a 20 piece metric wrench set. Big fan of the wrenches the chrome is nice and they are long for plenty of leverage.

The ratchet included in the socket set looks very much like a stanley to me. Makes me wonder who made the tools before they are rebranded.

Unless I was some major John Deere fanatic I would avoid them. I'd say the quality is fine, but they're just generic Taiwan tools with a John Deere price tag. I checked out the toolboxes when I stopped to pick up some combine parts and I was underwhelmed. The quality was well under Harbor Freight and the prices were very high.

New Holland is doing the same thing. The tools are fine but extremely expensive for what they are.

I have many of there tools. Sockets are just as good as my snap offs, the wrenches don't spread, and the ratchets ****.... I have there biggest road box they made at the time _ bigger than what's available now_ it is made by waterloo and has stood up to being on the back of my flatbed for 8 years and still works great, more than I can say about the snap on one closer to the cab next to it.

All in all, I buy there tools when I need something, I get them at cost so that's a plus. They also re label some of the best paint out there _ in other colors than green and yellow_

+1. They aren't bad tools but they are way over priced because the Deere name is attached to them.

Oh don't get me wrong.

I haven't paid a dime for any of the tools I have.

They have all been "gifts" from our seed supplier.

As a teenager they are more then enough from me.

I do however use my snap on ratchet with the sockets.

I wouldn't go that far...I bought a 3/8 Ratchet last summer for +/-$11.00, a Stanley with the Deere Rollmarks...overall a nice tool. Its no Snappy, but not a rip off either.

In terms of wrenches...they got 2 sets of combos...one is a Taiwan set for what I think is fair pricing. AND they also have a set of USA/Snappy made Wrenches, with a price tag which matches.

The CNH Tools are Williams tools..if my CaseIH Dealer had some I could buy on a whim, I probably would...

I have a few, they are decent tools and the Taiwan tools were Stanley back when I worked for the dealer. I have to disagree about the wrenches spreading though, my open ends as well as the tubing wrenches both spread so I don't use them where force is needed.

The boxes were made by Waterloo back in the day but they did have some cheap boxes then as well. Been gone from there for five years and a lot changes in a short amount of time.

I have a 14mm wrench spread on me, but it is one of the newer chrome ones. The rest of the set has stood the test of time. I bought that set back in 98. Happy with the set but pissed about the 14.

Decent tools. Like most techs on here appreciate the convenience of the snap on truck, farmers appreciate the convenience of the tools while at the dealer.

I worked for a trucking/excavating company next to the John Deere dealer. All of the tools were JD, they worked fine. Wore the box end out of a few wrenches but for the most part pretty good :dunno:

Cheesy way of selling import tools in rural areas with a trusted brand that otherwise people might not buy.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it or with the tools, I'm just saying it's kind of bait & switch in areas that probably aren't friendly to the import stuff. The areas where tractors are a thing.

John Deere had some gems. I bought mine when I was a dealer tech and got a nice discount. I own the USA made sae and metric wrench sets. Sizes up to 1 1/4 and 32 mm. Very nice full polish wrenches, use them everyday. I have the witte screwdriver set which are one of my favorite screwdrivers. Also I have several of their USA made prybars which are very nice and pretty cheap.

Actually, you would be surprised, many of the farmers loved them. They could pick up what they needed at the same place they bought parts, put them on their account and when the hired hands lost them they weren't out a ton of money.

If memory serves me correct ( good chance it doesn't) those are the USA made tools.

JD will be there to honor the lifetime warranty, or at worst give you your $$$ back.

We had standing orders from our Deere rep to replace any of the Bonney made tools with SK or any other good domestic brand.
