Johnson Levels-Good Experiance

I had a I beam 48in level, that the bubbles leaked in one of the ends. I contacted Johnson for a replacement part, to repair the level. Parts are no longer available. But they offered me a free replacement of the level. Its nice to see a company stand behind their products, not to many do anymore. I've had the level over 20 years.

Was it one of those classic mahogany brass bound models?

I have a vintage 24 inch Mahogany (or is it rosewood?) brass bound level with several leaking vials, but mine is a Stanley. I am probably S.O.L. right?

That's super cool. I had a 4 foot Johnson back in the mid 1980s. I went from that to a Sands "tell the truth" cast aluminum level, then a Master, then a levelution now Stabila. I also have a door hanger Stabila.

cool. didn't know they would replace like that. I've fixed a few levels myself, including some older wood ones just by taking the vials out of other dollar store levels. there are obviously different size vials out there but generally I can make them work...next one that is a more modern one I may have to call them up and see if they will save me the work.

another company that I found will take care of you is Fiskars. Had a broken handle on a pair of their lopers. I went to the website and they have a place where you can upload a picture of the damage. they sent me a brand new pair free of charge. they were probably 20 yrs old at least. new ones were a better model so win-win...

It was a 48in mid level price level, extruded aluminum I beam. Nothing super fancy. I was more than willing to buy repair parts, but no longer available. The bubbles on it are made of clear acrylic, if I had to guess and became brittle over time. I had it stored in a cool basement, so heat wasn't a factor, just age.
