HI guys-
First post here...need some ideas. Turns out that FRP makes for an amazing surface for pucks meant for off-ice training. I've converted 250 sq/ft of my garage to a 3" raised floor for stickhandling practice. Here's the problem:
I used FRP adhesive to stick panels to my OSB subfloor and I have some irregularity in the seams. Since on panel may sit a fraction of an inch higher at the seam, the puck catches the lip and stops. I tried using some liquid nail at the seam thinking that may be a stronger hold, but same issue.
I'm looking for a way to join FRP panels so that I don't have to worry about a ****-joint seam created by gluing the panel down to the subfloor. Basically, I want to join the panels tightly without relying on the subfloor. The kicker is if I use some type of backing material at the seam, it has to be thin enough that it doesn't cause a raise at the seam, which creates a little mini-ramp when the puck hits it. Here's some things I've considered to get your brain juices flowing:
-Use a planer to plane a 2-3" wide strip at the edge removing the back 50% of one panel and front 50% of the next panel, and then overlap with some type of adhesive. Not sure how FRP would respond to a planer...especially being so thin already
-Use some type of thin sheet-metal as a backing strip and adhere panels with double-sided carpet tape. I've stuck panels down to a concrete floor like this before and it held pretty well...
Anyone have ideas?
