Hello,

I've visited this website a number of times and read some very informative posts, so I thought I would join the fun.

I am restoring a 52 year-old car in a typical two-car garage, so its been an adventure. I was wondering about reworking the ceiling of the garage and having the overhead door tracks follow the pitch of the roof. This way I could raise, or remove the ceiling and get a few more feet of space fort he portable butterfly lift I'd like to buy.

This may be a totally unrealistic idea to try in an existing garage, but it would give me some needed height and I could just relocate the junk over the garage to storage over the two bedrooms on that side of the house.

Rai: nice title to your first post!! here's a member's thread that he did exactly what you mentioned with his garage door. he also has a cool new garage and tools so even if you have to look for his garage door post you might enjoy the read.

if i recall correctly the garage door installers installed the rails wrong and had to come back and put the rails up on the ceiling.

Maybe post up some photo's of your garage, inside and out. The success and complexity of what you would like to do with the overhead door has everything to do with the existing type of structure that holds up the roof.

I had the overhead door follow the roof, but my building has the trusses spaced at over 12 ft.

Lakeroadster, the picture shows the garage I wish I had, though that's exactly what I'd like to do with the overhead door. Right now, my car is on a restoration cart with about 2 &1/2 feet between the bottom of the car and the floor of the garage and a portable butterfly lift would be so nice.

In the picture, it appears as though there is no electric opener installed. I would need to overcome that problem as we keep our Mazda 3 in the garage and my back and my wife's knees are not what they used to be

I'll take some photos pf the garage in a day or two and post them.
