So I am allocating a portion of my tax return to purchasing some new power tools. I am mostly after a drill, impact, and electric ratchet to supplement my air tools. These will be used in the aviation feel so torque is not a major concern since everything will have final torque by hand; and drilling will be less than .062" aluminum. I f i need to drill out a screw or bolt ill grab my air tools for that. This is the kit I am currently planning on purchasing. Just interested in thoughts and suggestions on this. Thanks.

For your application, definitely stick with the m12 lineup, don't let anyone talk you into getting the m18

Plus the M12 stuff will fit better into my tool box.

Just picked up the same kit. Excited to use it for some upcoming projects. Most of my application is automotive so I'll be getting into M18 soon for the more powerful impacts.

I have a M12 3/8 impact a 1/2 hammer drill and a 3/8 right angle drill. All of them are beasts you won't be disappointed in the purchase. I use the 1/2 drill to power my line boring bar when I'm machining veedub cases.

Yep, 12V Fuel is plenty for aviation work. A lot of these threads are about the homeowner getting into a cordless line, so in that case 18V is recommended due to being able to handle high torque jobs like driving huge fasteners into wood. And they're not using the tools 8 hours a day, so the extra weight of 18V stuff doesn't matter.

I have the kit in the original post. My only complaint is the length from **** to chuck of the drill is no shorter than compact 18v's I have. Outside of this one thing, they're phenomenal.

The power and torque for a 12v is outstanding and I've never had a problem with these specific tools (hammer drill and hex impact).

Along with this kit, I have the hackzall, right angle drill, LED light, screwdriver and a 3/8 drill (rarely used, but note this one is shorter than the hammer drill).

Everything but the hackzall and 3/8 drill fit into one of the Ridgid organizer boxes (attached).

The 3/8 ratchet is next on my list!

Great set and a great choice. You can't go wrong.

I'm assuming you will still do any volume drilling for rivets with an air drill or something with a much faster speed?

So true. Stick with M12.

Only get M18 if you need the big tools like a full size circular saw or huge 1/2" high torque impact.

Nope!

Again, M18 is not needed for a homeowner either unless you need the tools like I mentioned above.

Like everyone said stick with the m12, I have both the m12 and m18 and actually always grab the m12 unless I need more power or drilling big holes. Plus if you want extra batteries they won't cost an arm and a leg to get. You won't be disappointed with the Milwaukee stuff.

I recommend if you are going to use the M12 for long periods of time get the 4.0 batteries. Keeps you running, instead of running to the battery charger.

Actually I was gonna say the 6.0's are amazing. I'd spend the extra for the 6.0 when you go to buy more batteries. Likewise the compact 3.0s are great.

And how do you know this? Are they going to be cheaper than this?

Next week is pro appreciation week and some stores have already set the event and this is part of it. It doesn't officially start yet but when it does I bet this drops to 169.00

Never mind. I just looked at the original post i didn't notice the ratchet. That's a good deal. Just the 2 tool set will be 169.00. Sorry.

For my 18th birthday my dad bought me a orbital sawzall... not sure of the amp rating, but I have used that saw on A LOT of stuff in the last 17 years and it still works just as well as when it was new... the metal box it came in, I still have... Great saw! Much better than the Dewalts or the Portacables I have used. and i got mine for free

Make sure you get the Fuel versions. They have been putting the non-Fuel versions on sale frequently, trying to unload their old stock I guess. The extra battery life will be worth it.

I have the same tools and love them. I prefer the ratchet with the compact batteries, though.

I bought the m12 Fuel Hammer Drill/driver before the kit with the impact driver came out. It included a XC and compact battery, case, and charger and was $200 at the time. I told my dad whose sole cordless experience at home comes from 20 year old thech that it was perfect for around the house stuff. I let him borrow it and he built a shed from one of the 84 Lumber plans using just it (and a circular and radial arm saw). He was so impressed that he asked for it and only it for Christmas. By that time, the kit you bought came out and we got it for him with the free ratchet for $200.

Sorry for the rambling story...

I had the smaller battery on the charger when I took the picture.
