Hello everyone! Just recently purchased my first Snap On tool box. I have been looking for quite sometime now and ran across this KR562A from Craigslist. Couldn't pass it up. It's alittle rough, but its my new gem. Gotta thank an understanding woman at home, and long hours at work to pay for it. LOL! Just wanted to share with the forum!

That one looks in pretty decent shape.

How much, and what year is the date of manufacture?

Looks like late '70s from the badge.

It is a 1977 model, and I'm guessing I paid about 1977 price as well. $600

...and the story I was told, it survived a building collapse from a tornado.

I was wondering what came as a top box on these originally. I'll try to get more pictures, but I am putting it into service right away. I have out grown my other box, which has surpassed my expectations for a harbour freight box. I'm also not sure when I will restore it. Not much time to do it, but I would like clean off the rust and maintain it til I can restore it properly. Any ideas?

Also wouldn't mind seeing a catalog from 1977.

I don't know that any top boxes really went with it specifically. First time I saw one of those boxes, there was a KR 537 and the three drawer middle (547?) on top. I bought the middle and top boxes, but didn't get the taco wagon as I had no way to get it home. Still wish I'd been able to get it.

I doubt I will put a top box on it. I am really enjoying the work top space. I can do a total rebuild of a hoist on it and spread everything out. Since I have upgraded, I realize I have alot more space for more tools!

I bought a '80 model used in '85 and IMO the appeal of the KR562 is to use the top as a workbench! Some people I have worked with put top boxes on but they look out of place. It looks like yours has the brake intact which I find useful to roll up to a truck or trailer , put the brake on and go to work. Yours also has the tow spot which I use a fifth wheel puller to tow with. Both of these things seem to be missing on most of the used ones that I have seen for sale--in my area $1000 and up for one in the shape yours is in.
Collecting Snap on doesn't have a '77 catalog but here is the catalog page from '78 and you can see there is no recommended top box like Snap-on does on most roll cabs:

Interesting. I've seen a few in person and have never seen that brake on any of them.

I too have one in my shop. Once I finally got new slides for it, it's a workhorse.

Truly a testament to why one might spend as much as they cost for a S/O box.

How many HF boxes will command a price like that in 40 years?

Here is mine. I did some horse trading and got it for about a $350 value. As you can see its the spray paint special! I really had to clean it out as it was a diesel engine shop box and it has a thick layer of sludge all over it. It will never be as dirty again working on planes.

Check out collecting snap on.com. He has most of the catalogs on there. As for a top chest, there mas no perfect mate. SO does show in some catalogs with the kr 550 top chest.

Nope.

But I'm pretty sure a T.C. would be perfect in the front left corner of my garage next to the door.

:sigh: one more thing to get. :D

I agree Chevy. I already have one, but this one has less drawers and more doors than I have seen in other posts. Trying to see how rare it is and if I can still get it.
